SPANISH MOTOCROSS GRAND PRIX CANCELED; SPANISH GRAND PRIX RESCHEDULED?

When the Catalunya consortium of the national sports council, regional and local governments got into financial difficulties, like cities and counties around the world, they made the decision to cancel the Bellpuig-based Spanish Grand Prix on June 19. The blame falls on the world economic crisis.

Youthstream has announced that a new venue, for the same weekend, will be announced next week. Because the Portugese GP in Agueda is the week before the previously scheduled Spanish Grand Prix, it behooves Youthstream to find another track in Spain to cut down on travel expenses.

Bellpuig was not a favorite of the GP riders or of the dwindling Spanish crowds, so a move to another track, possibily Talavera (although this Spanish track has not held a GP in recent years), might revitalize the Grand Prix of Spain.
