REM GLEN HELEN MOTOCROSS RACE REPORT: WHERE IN THE WORLD IS JASON LAWRENCE? HE WAS AT REM THIS WEEKEND

Photos by Dan Almangos and Ernie Becker Jason Lawrence (338) won the 450 Pro class with a 2-1 day. It wasn?t all fun and games as Jason got into an scuffle after practice with fellow 450 Pro Brandon Brady. In a pure world, Jason Lawrence would have been at the Southwick National motocross and Michael Lieb would have been at the Swedish Grand Prix this past weekend. Instead, they were at the weekly REM motocross races at Glen Helen getting in some warm-up before their return to the Big-Time. They went 2-…

MOTOCROSS ACTION’S MID-WEEK REPORT BY JOHN BASHER (6/26/13)

PHOTO (SEQUENCE) OF THE WEEK     There’s a method to our madness when we receive a new bike. Take last week’s 2014 Kawasaki KX250F intro at Competitive Edge, for example. We stickered up the new steed, had our video guru Travis Fant shoot footage of the bike on the stand, did a brief introduction, and then went riding.     That’s where things got really interesting. I grabbed my camera, had Travis in tow, and let Daryl Ecklund spin a few laps on the new bike to get comforta…

MOTOCROSS ACTION’S MID-WEEK REPORT BY JOHN BASHER (5/29/13)

MINI-VIEW: ZACH OSBORNE     Team Geico/Honda’s Zach Osborne is a journeyman. He’s been a little bit of everywhere, racing in the U.S. and then abroad for several years. Now he’s back stateside, and for good reason. “The Real 338” is a legitimate threat in the 250 class. Just this past weekend he scored third place overall?even with a crash?and tracked down points leader Ken Roczen in the second moto.     I thought it fitting to talk to the Virginia native about his outdoor …

MOTOCROSS ACTION’S MID-WEEK REPORT BY JOHN BASHER (3/27/13)

PHOTO OF THE WEEK: PART 1          It is with great pleasure that I complete this week’s Mid-Week Report with very little sleep or food in my system. Why am I happy? My wife and I welcomed our first child, Brayden Henry, into the world. Brayden was born on March 23rd at 2:16 a.m. The little bugger measured 23 inches long and weighed 8 pounds, 5 ounces. It’s nice to see that he has long legs, because it?ll help him skim the whoops easier once he gets older. Ladies and gentle…

MOTOCROSS ACTION’S MID-WEEK REPORT BY JOHN BASHER (3/20/13)

PHOTO OF THE WEEK: PART 1     Check out this cool back shot that freelance photographer Scott Mallonee took at the Indianapolis Supercross. That’s a lot of dirt being displaced at one time. MINI-VIEW: WESTON PEICK By Jim Kimball     In many minds Weston Peick is about the most passionate man racing AMA Supercross. Although he does get some help along the way, the privateer from Wildomar, California, is largely spending his own money to make it through the 2013 series. Frequ…

MOTOCROSS ACTION’S MID-WEEK REPORT BY JOHN BASHER (1/30/13)

PHOTO OF THE WEEK       Sometimes you win the race. Sometimes you make mistakes and don?t reach expectations. And then sometimes, when your day is really going poorly, you crash hard and your bike lands in a drainage ditch for the frogs to defecate on. Photo by Massimo Zanzani IS KTM GOING TO BUY HUSQVARNA? THAT IS THE HOT RUMOR OUT OF EUROPE      According to Britain’s “Motorcycle News,” BMW, which bought Husqvarna from MV Agusta in 2008, might sell the company t…

MOTOCROSS ACTION’S MID-WEEK REPORT BY JOHN BASHER (1/23/13)

PHOTO OF THE WEEK     The cross-up has gone the way of the dinosaur. A kid on a Cobra 65 can scrub these days. Leg swag? Yawn. Whips? Boring. How about dragging hand through a corner? That’s what I?m talking about. MXA Assistant Editor Daryl Ecklund gets down on the 2013 TM 450MX and picks up a soil sample.     Can you do this? If so, email your photos to mxa@hi-torque with the subject heading ?MWR Hand Drag.? Maybe, just maybe, I?ll post your photo in next week’s edition o…

MOTOCROSS ACTION’S MID-WEEK REPORT BY JOHN BASHER (1/9/13)

PHOTO SEQUENCE OF THE WEEK     Ryan VIllopoto had a bad night at Anaheim 1, losing the opener for the first time in three years. He did, however, have this step-down jump on lock down. It’s cool to see that Dirt Wurx added in a few unique obstacles to Anaheim. This jump, along with the wall jump before the finish line, slowed the racing down a bit and mixed things up. Let’s hope that Dirt Wurx continues to bring fresh new ideas to Supercross tracks while keeping an eye on safety. FROM THE…

2013 KTM 125SX & 150SX PHOTO SHOOT: A GREAT DAY HAD BY ALL

Daryl Ecklund (left) and Kurt Caselli go front end high in tandem fashion. By John Basher     When it comes to working at MXA there are good days, and then there are great days. Yesterday fell into the latter category. Why? It’s about impossible to be bummed out when you?re going out to a secret desert track and shooting your buddies slaying berms and slapping hands on brand-spankin?-new KTM two-strokes. Add in the fact that these riders have more style than all of Milan and you know it’s…

MOTOCROSS ACTION’S MID-WEEK REPORT (06/20/12)

By John Basher PHOTO OF THE WEEK: PART 1     Shooting photos for bike tests is a pretty creative and fun part of my job. It allows me to get away from the computer and out of the office. More importantly, I?m able to hang out with buddies at the track and think of unique ways to photograph these friends on brand new bikes.       By now everyone probably knows what MXA is famous for?blowing out berms. No soft pile of dirt is safe when an MXA photo rider is looking for a…

MOTOCROSS ACTION’S MID-WEEK REPORT: (06/13/12)

By John Basher PHOTO OF THE WEEK: PART 1     Yesterday we had the privilege of testing Ryan Villopoto’s Monster Kawasaki KX450F. Above, Daryl Ecklund rips up a prime chunk of terra firma for my camera. Don?t know Daryl? You?ll meet him, if only you keep reading this Mid-Week Report.
