MOTOCROSS ACTION’S MID-WEEK REPORT BY JOHN BASHER (3/13/13)

MXA : Despite the numerous crashes, Chad had a good race at Daytona. Dave: Chad isn’t dead yet. He’s a fighter, and he’s a bad dude. Even though Ryan Villopoto, Ryan Dungey, Justin Ba…

MOTOCROSS ACTION’S MID-WEEK REPORT BY JOHN BASHER (3/6/13)

PHOTO OF THE WEEK     Geico Honda’s Wil Hahn turned Pro in 2007, and in the course of those years he bounced around to several teams. Injuries plagued the amiable Kansas native and younger brother to Tommy Hahn, but he always had the talent to run up front. It all came together for Wil in Atlanta, where he won his first ever 250 Supercross race. Hahn backed it up with another win, this time in St. Louis. For his efforts and consistency Wil leads the 250 East point standings. It couldn?t h…

MOTOCROSS ACTION’S MID-WEEK REPORT (06/20/12)

By John Basher PHOTO OF THE WEEK: PART 1     Shooting photos for bike tests is a pretty creative and fun part of my job. It allows me to get away from the computer and out of the office. More importantly, I?m able to hang out with buddies at the track and think of unique ways to photograph these friends on brand new bikes.       By now everyone probably knows what MXA is famous for?blowing out berms. No soft pile of dirt is safe when an MXA photo rider is looking for a…

REM GLEN HELEN MOTOCROSS RACE REPORT: ELI TOMAC WINS 250 PRO CLASS; JUSTIN SOULE TAKES 450 PROS, WHILE TROY LEE & JEFF WARD WIN THEIR CLASSES

Swedish National Champion Fredrik Noren chases Open Intermediate Steven Tokarski (710) and 450 Pro Joey Webb (593). Noren ended up second overall in the 450 Pro class with Webb sixth. Tokarski ran with the front pack of the Pros until he crashed out. The geography is important because when the rains come…

WORLD TWO-STROKE MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP: RYAN HUGHES BRINGS A SLINGSHOT TO AN ARTILLERY BATTLE

In the front wave of the first L.A. Sleeve Pro class start, Austin Howell (2), Dennis Stapleton (32), Doug Dubach (15) and Bobby Garrison (1) fan out. In the background are Willy Musgrave (422), Steve Stultz (78), Niclas Gustavsson (37) and Austin Squires (711). What isn’t visible in this start is Ryan Hughes…but he was coming up fast. Americans have a knack for naming everything a ?World Championship?…and in most cases they have the right to do it?because everything is bigger and better in the USA …

WHO WILL WIN THIS WEEKEND’S WORLD TWO-STROKE MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP AT GLEN HELEN?

Last year’s World Two-Stroke Champion Bobby Garrison pressed the “down button” on one of the Glen Helen’s elevator drops. The 2011 World Two-Stroke Championship is only a few days away (April 3) and with $4500 on the line (the winner will get $2000), the field is expected to include all of last year’s players, plus efforts from KTM, Yamaha, TM and Husqvarna. WORLD TWO-STROKE MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP WARM-UP: GLEN HELEN GETS INVADED BY KILLER BEES

Ryan Hughes needs to workout a little to get rid of some of the flab. Yikes! Ryno is ripped. Ryan will be sponsored by GYTR to race a Yamaha YZ144 at the World Two-Stroke Championship. Ryan cranked out plenty of laps today and believes that he can win…and likes his chances on the little bike. This is Ryno’s YZ144. It features a GYTR exhaust pipe, clutch, blue anodized wheels, 144cc engine kit and lots of other GYTR parts. GYTR’s Trevor Kemp was on hand to make sure that Ryan had whatever he needed bef…

ASK THE MXPERTS: HOW FAST ARE THE WOMEN AT THE AMA NATIONALS?

Dear MXA, I saw on a chat room today that the women, most notably Jessica Patterson, were only 5 seconds off the men’s time at Southwick.  I have seen the women race at the Nationals and there is no way they are even close to the men’s time. What’s the truth? Southwick is not a good place to make comparisons from timed qualifying…as Andrew Short found out. The first practice sessions are on a smooth track and the later session are on a rough track. The lap times drop off to the tune of 15 seconds…

GLEN HELEN PRACTICE DAY PHOTOS:

Ryan Dungey was flying at Glen Helen. He’s aiming for his fourth championship in as many tries. Kyle Cunningham had a great race on the Valli Motorsports YZ450F at Las Vegas. He was out at Glen Helen putting the Valli Motorsports YZ450F through its paces. He looked very good. Usually back in Georgia, it was nice to see Martin Davalos spinning laps out west. Here, he flies over the massive soon-to-be USGP finish line jump. Jessica Patterson switched brands during the off-season. She’s aiming to take back…
