MOTOCROSS ACTION’S MID-WEEK REPORT: (10/19/11)

MOTOCROSS ACTION’S MID-WEEK REPORT By John Basher PHOTO OF THE WEEK     Kyle Loza almost pulled off the very first bike flip, called the ‘Scarecrow.? Almost. Photo: John Basher.  MONSTER ENERGY CUP: THE AFTERMATH     The idea of the Monster Energy Cup is pretty neat, and the fans seemed to buy into the concept, as the stands were very full for a first-time effort. I figured it would be difficult getting fans to watch the ?outside? portion of the track (that is, the sec…

MOTOCROSS ACTION’S MID-WEEK REPORT (06/21/11)

By John Basher PHOTO OF THE WEEK       Kevin Windham is arguably the most popular rider in the sport, and his legions of fans were boisterous in their praise through the first four rounds of the Nationals. Even though Kevin said that he was going to go home after last week’s Budds Creek Nationals, he has decoded to race a few more events (although not all of them). ?It’s been so much fun, I?m going to race at least a few more rounds. The fans have played a big role in my decision. Th…

REM GLEN HELEN MOTOCROSS RACE REPORT: RYAN HUGHES SWEEPS THE 450 PRO CLASS AT REM’S USGP SEQUEL

Ryan Hughes (4) left nothing on the table on his way to the 450 Pro win. Every year after the USGP or the previous AMA National, REM gets to hold a race on the leftover race track. It is the perfect dream sequence for the Glen Helen regulars…but even dreams can have a few down sides. As sweet as it is to race on the same track as the big-time pros, it means that the local racers (Novices, Vets and Minis) have to ride on the same bumps, jumps and hills as the big-time Pros. And, no matter what anyone t…

WORLD TWO-STROKE MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP: RYAN HUGHES BRINGS A SLINGSHOT TO AN ARTILLERY BATTLE

In the front wave of the first L.A. Sleeve Pro class start, Austin Howell (2), Dennis Stapleton (32), Doug Dubach (15) and Bobby Garrison (1) fan out. In the background are Willy Musgrave (422), Steve Stultz (78), Niclas Gustavsson (37) and Austin Squires (711). What isn’t visible in this start is Ryan Hughes…but he was coming up fast. Americans have a knack for naming everything a ?World Championship?…and in most cases they have the right to do it?because everything is bigger and better in the USA …

WHO WILL WIN THIS WEEKEND’S WORLD TWO-STROKE MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP AT GLEN HELEN?

Last year’s World Two-Stroke Champion Bobby Garrison pressed the “down button” on one of the Glen Helen’s elevator drops. The 2011 World Two-Stroke Championship is only a few days away (April 3) and with $4500 on the line (the winner will get $2000), the field is expected to include all of last year’s players, plus efforts from KTM, Yamaha, TM and Husqvarna. Last year’s winner, Bobby Garrison, raced for the Husqvarna team, but this year he has switched to Kawasaki for the WORCS series?but is expected to…

WORLD TWO-STROKE MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP WARM-UP: GLEN HELEN GETS INVADED BY KILLER BEES

Ryan Hughes needs to workout a little to get rid of some of the flab. Yikes! Ryno is ripped. Ryan will be sponsored by GYTR to race a Yamaha YZ144 at the World Two-Stroke Championship. Ryan cranked out plenty of laps today and believes that he can win…and likes his chances on the little bike. This is Ryno’s YZ144. It features a GYTR exhaust pipe, clutch, blue anodized wheels, 144cc engine kit and lots of other GYTR parts. GYTR’s Trevor Kemp was on hand to make sure that Ryan had whatever he needed bef…

WHAT YOU’RE MISSING IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THE NEW ISSUE OF MXA:

MXA ‘s Dennis “Staple Gun” Stapleton pilots DR.D’s full-race KTM 350SXF for John “J3” Minert’s Canon. Yes, we did ask Broc Tickle about his dog! You’ve read all the fluff tests, but now its time to zero in on the real facts about the 2011 250 Four-Strokes. MXA spent four months racing, riding and dynoing these machines. Now we spill the beans. When Bob Hannah stops by the palatial MXA Towers we sit him down on a Matrix stand and let him talk. You never know what he’s going to say, but we guarantee that …

MOTOCROSS ACTION PHOTO GALLERY: WHAT YOU MISSED AT GLEN HELEN THIS WEEKEND

Photos by John Basher and Dan Alamangos This was the smooth part of the Glen Helen World Vet track. Saturday’s track was very rough, but Sunday was considered “smooth” by Glen Helen specialists. They might have been making that up to scare the foreign riders. Ryan Hughes (4) gets a big jump on the pack in the Over-30 Pro class. Ryan was on a stock CRF450 with an FMF exhaust pipe. MXA knows that Ryan was on a stocker because we wouldn’t let him touch the engine on the bike we supplied him. By the time th…
