MOTOCROSS ACTION’S MID-WEEK REPORT: (05/15/12)

By John Minert PHOTO OF THE WEEK The Red Bull X-Fighters event at Glen Helen this past weekend was impressive, to say the least. Red Bull transformed the REM Saturday motocross track into a pit with massive jumps surrounded by bleachers. We?re inclined to label the event a success, judging by the attendance numbers and media play. MXA MINI-VIEW: TRAVIS BAKER Some racer struggle to get set up for outdoors, but Travis says his ride is dialed. MXA: We were glad you have had a quick recovery from a nasty-lo…

REM GLEN HELEN MOTOCROSS REPORT: KYLE SUMMERS, COLTON HAAKER, BRYCE VALLEE, SEAN COLLIER, TRAVIS BAKER, KYLE BEATON, VIKTOR BJORKLUND, BILLY MUSGRAVE, MARK TILLEY & DENNIS STAPLETON

The 250 Pro class was so close that three of these riders tied for second overall. Amazingly, the guy who is totally sideways, Kyle Beaton got the nod with a 4-2, in front of Billy Musgrave’s 3-3 and Viktor Borklund’s 2-4. Neither Travis Baker (51) nor 450 Intermediate winner Justin Jones (red jersey) had any math problems as they went 1-1 in their classes. Glen Helen has been a busy place as of late. Not only are they gearing up for the World Two-Stroke Motocross Championship on April 1 (which will fea…

A pack of rider heads up one of REM’s hills. George Kohler (192), Mike Monaghan, Mitch Evans (4), Pete Vetrano (37) and Mark Crosby (95) lead the charge. Some days are just made for hardcore motocross and this week at REM motocross the stars were aligned. Better yet, the wind wasn?t blowing and it was 84 degrees (not bad for February). Whatever the combination, almost every class evolved into all-out war between the competitors on the track. Everyone seem up for a fight?at least the wheel-to-wheel kind …

MXA’S LAST WEEK IN REVIEW: WHAT YOU MISSED LAST WEEK IF YOU WERE IN QUANTANAMO

HISTORY AS IT HAPPENS! PHOTO MOMENTOS OF KTM’s BIG NIGHT Ryan Dungey spanning the gap on his way to KTM’s first-ever Supercross victory. They said it couldn’t be done? Who said that? Well, Roger DeCoster for one (when he was at Honda and Suzuki). The slippery Phoenix dirt required maximum throttle control?that’s where Ryan is the best. “Pop, pop, fizz, fizz! Oh what a relief it is!” There were a lot of naysayers when Ryan Dungey passed up Joe Gibbs and Team Honda for KTM?but none now. The first man to m…
