GIUSEPPE LUONGO TRIES TO DEFLECT CRITICISM BY DOING SOMETHING NICE… NO, REALLY!

Giu seppe Luongo. You have to give Giuseppe Luongo credit. No matter how much he has mucked up the World Motocross Championships, he just keeps throwing out ideas to see if anything sticks. There is no shortage of ideas ? just of good ones. His latest move is actually something fairly nice ? but nice is not his actual motive. Luongo will hold a tryout for the 2014 450 World Championship series at the British Grand Prix next month. During this tryout, if a rider can come within 110 percent of the average…

THE 2014 GRAND PRIX MOTOCROSS SCHEDULE RELEASED: MEXICO AGAIN …IN SEPTEMBER …CAN YOU SAY ?MUY CALIENTE?

Youthstream is contractually required by the FIM to release next year’s GP schedule by July 1 of the year before. Surprisingly, it isn?t required to hold any of those races when it comes time to implement the actual race calendar. So, take this provisional calendar with a grain of salt. The 2014 calendar has the first three fly-away races (Qatar, Thailand and Brazil) grouped together, but then, at the end of the schedule, is Mexico. It is unlikely that the GP teams will be willing to fly to Mexico for o…

If you loved the sound of an angry pack of 450s roaring off the line, you will get half your wish in Qatar. This just in from from the ?Permanent Bureau of the Motocross Grand Prix,? but we think they meant the ?Politburo.? We find it hard to believe that they have something called the ?Permanent Bureau of Motocross.? And we find it hard to believe that the Fly-away GP system has been changed again. Do these guys ever think things out before they fire off press releases? On November 24, 2012, the “MXGP …

BLACK & WHITE: ARE THE WOMEN READY FOR PRIME TIME? ARE THERE BETTER OPTIONS

There have been Women’s National Motocross Championships in the United States since 1974. That makes women’s racing just as old as the AMA 125 National and AMA Supercross series. But, unlike the AMA series, women’s racing has had numerous sanctioning bodies. In fact, a list of the organizations that have played a role in women’s motocross since 1974 reads like an acronym encyclopedia. The list includes PURR (Powder Puffs Unlimited Riders & Racers), IWMA (International Women’s MX Association), WMXA (…

LET THE REVOLT BEGIN: THE 2013 GRAND PRIX SCHEDULE IS ANNOUNCED & IT IS A DOOZY

The 2013 Motocross World Championship will start in Thailand in 2013. Thailand has a three-year contract (until 2015) and since the week after Thailand is also schedule as a TBA race?it can be assumed that it will also be in Asia (your guess of China, India, Philippines, Japan or Korea is as good as anyone elses, but if it’s in Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan or Iran there will be travel issues). The teams will now have to fly to Asia to start the series and then two months later fly to the Mexico/Brazil roun…

There was space on the podium as well for Christophe Charlier and Jose Butron in MX2 and David Philippaerts and Kevin Strijbos in MX1. MEXICAN STAND-OFF ENDS PEACEFULLY (FOR NOW)! THE RACE GOES ON & CAIROLI, DESALLE AND PHILIPPAERTS GO ONE-TWO-THREE JUST LIKE IN EUROPE

KTM’s Tony Cairoli obtained the second GP win of the season in Mexico after going 1-3. In the first moto, Cairoli ovetook Clement Desalle and Christophe Pourcel to pull away for the victory. At the start of the second moto Cairoli almost crashed and had to push hard to get back to third to obtain the overall 450 victory. Suzuki ‘s Desalle finished second in both motos and missed the top step of the podium by one point. The Belgian rode a consistent first moto, and in the second one he moved from third t…

GP RIDERS BOYCOTT MEXICO QUALIFYING! LUONGO’S CIRCUS COMES TO A GRINDING HALT

Clement Desalle makes his own Mexican sand storm in practice…which is all he rode. In what is not a first time occurrence, the Grand Prix circus got a major black eye in Guadalajara, Mexico, when the GP riders refused to line up for the Mexican Grand Prix Saturday qualifiers ? claiming that the track was ill-prepared, dusty and the jump faces were poorly designed. Michael Leib and Max Anstie were the only two GP regulars to race the qualifiers ? because Leib is a fill-in rider and his team manager, St…
