TEN THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT BUDDS CREEK

(1) Blake Baggett pulled one of his famous come-from-behind victories in moto one of the 250 class.

(2) Eli Tomac pulled one of Blake Baggett’s famous come-from-behind victories in moto two of the 250 class…which included passing Blake Baggett.

(3) Ken Roczen was sick and used up his energy finishing third in the first moto. In the second moto Ken benefited from other riders making mistakes (for example, Musquin falling over) to turn an eighth into a sixth. Even with his fall, Musquin made the podium?and Roczen failed to make the podium for the first time this series.

(4) Adam Cianciarulo was not a factor in either moto (although he did run near the front for awhile in moto one). His 14-17 may seem like a let down after all the hype, but it should be noted that Ricky Carmichael went 6-13 in his first National outing. Of course, comparisons will be made between Adam and early season sensation Cooper Webb, but Webb only managed a 12-26 at Budds.

(5) Pro Circuit’s Mitch Payton has stuck with Darryn Durham through a string of injuries and, finally at Budds Creek, Durham got to show his stuff, by leading the second 250 moto most of the way (only to end up a solid third ? which he added to a mediocre first moto 13th for seventh overall).

(6) Wil Hahn came back from his Las Vegas Supercross injury to prove that winning a Championship makes you ride better. In his first 250 National this year, Wil holeshot both motos and went 6-5. Welcome back.

(7) Ryan Villopoto rode like a man possessed in the second 450 moto ? feet off, bouncing over berms and totally pinned on the outside line. Unfortunately, Ryan Dungey rode like a machine out front. Dungey didn’t gain any points on Villopoto, but his 2-1 earned him a $100,000 bonus from KTM.

(8) James Stewart hit the deck again. Then, he hit the deck again. Stewie and the Suzuki are in a tug-of-war and based on the number of crashes James has had this year ? the RM-Z450 is winning. Bubba was 12th overall with a 11-13 day.

(9) Shout out to Phil Nicoletti. Even though his 15-6 left him ninth overall, he looked like a front runner in the second moto as he fought with factory stars for his place in the line.

(10) Jake Weimer (8th), Andrew Short (10th), Josh Grant (13th), Chad Reed (14th), Nick Wey (24th) and Michael Byrne (36th) are all running out of time for lightning to strike.
