THE THIRD DIFFERENT GP SCHEDULE OF 2019: ARGENTINA IS BACK

Mountains, trees and dark dirt highlight the Argentinian Grand Prix track in Neuquen.

Although dropped from 2019 Grand Prix schedules #1 and #2, Argentina is back on the schedule in schedule #3. The South American round, held in Neuquen, features one of the best tracks on the MXGP circuit. Unlike most fly-away GPs it isn’t a terrible, flat, ill-prepared embarassment of a track for the World Motocross Championships. Argentina was originally dropped for 2019 because the government funding that made it happen wasn’t forthcoming. Finally, the local government of the Neuquen province saw the tourist potential of the GP and put up the money to get the race back on the schedule.

MXGP promoter Youthstream was angling for a Middle East country, where government money would foot the bill. Kuwait was on the short list and Youthstream personnel had mentioned Iran on various occasions‚ but in the end Argentina was put back on the schedule.

It is the first of  5 fly-away races (which will mean 3 separate trips out of Europe). The other four races are double header weekends in China (on April 21 and May 1) and Indonesia  (on July 7 and July 14).
