THE 1985 KTM 250MX THAT WON THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

The Austrian Heinz Kinigadner was one of the top Grand Prix riders in Europe during the mid-1980s. In both 1984 and 1985, he won the FIM World Championship aboard a factory KTM 250MX. Many might be surprised that KTM had three 250cc World titles under their belt before Heinz came along. All from Guennady Moisseev of Russia who took the title in 1974, 1977 and 1978.

After Heinz motocross career, he went on to compete in offroad races, such as Paris to Dakar. Following retirement, he helped start (which he might say has been his biggest accomplishment) the Wings for Life foundation. He saw a need for spinal cord research after both his brother and son were paralyzed. Find more information here.

The most noticeable difference between Heinz’s factory KTM 250MX and the production version are the upside-down forks.
