The second of 20 GPs took place in Valkenswaard, Holland, and it started as a mix of sun and rain, eventually devolving into rain and mud—and don’t forget sand (albeit wet sand). The hardy Dutch fans braved the weather amid news that the 4th Grand Prix of the series in Trention, Italy, has been canceled because of the coronavirus (and rescheduled for July).
Although Jeffrey Herlings and Tom Vialle won their respective classes in the wet sand of Holland, both of them faced riders who beat them in one moto, only to suffer crashes in the second moto to hand Herlings and Vialle 2-1 victories. It was Herlings’ 88th Grand Prix victory. But, Tim Gajser (450) and Jago Geerts (25) could very well have been standing on the top step of the podium—based on pure speed. The Grand Prix series flies to Argentina on March 22 for the third round.
