ASK THE MXPERTS: HOW TO GET RID OF THE HONDA CRF450 & KAWASAKI KX450 JUDDER SPRING

Theses are the three pieces you remove from your CRF450 or KX450F clutch—and replace with one full-size clutch plate.

Dear MXA,
I plan to follow your advice on replacing the judder spring and judder plate on my 2019 Honda CRF450 with a normal fiber plate. When I looked at the clutch in the parts book, I wondered whether I should also take out the judder spring seat?

Yes, you need to remove the judder spring fiber plate (p/n 22201-MENA10), judder spring Belleville washer (p/n 22402-MBN-670) and judder spring flat washer (p/n 22125-MBN-670). But first you have to remove all of the KX450 and CRF450 fiber and steel plates to get to the judder spring’S Belleville washer and judder spring flat washer. You will know you have reached them when see the the last fiber plate, which is much narrower than all the other clutch plates. You need to remove the two metal parts and the skinny fiber plate. With these three parts removed, you can install a regular fiber clutch plate (p/n 22201-MBN-670) in their place. The part numbers are for a Honda, but you don’t need to buy any parts other than one full-size fiber clutch plate to complete the job.
