The oft-injured Ben Townley has been on a roll in the  Australian Motocross Championship. Until he went to Coonabarabran in New South Wales. After dominating the opening round of the season in Queensland a two weeks ago, Townley entered this weekend’s second round as the pre-race favorite.

Unfortunately, disaster struck Townley when he fell in the morning practice. Suzuki RaceSafe attended to Townley at the track and he was air-lifted out of the venue for further analysis regarding the injury. It turns out that his dislocated hip will require surgery and he won’t be ready for the May 19 start of the AMA National at Hangtown.

Coonabarabran was set to be Townley’s last appearance before heading off to the U.S. to race for Chad Reed’s TwoTwo Motorsports team.
