BREAKING NEWS! 2021 AMA NATIONAL NUMBERS RELEASED

The AMA has just released the updated 2021 National number and career number list. The AMA has an interesting way of assigning numbers to the top Supercross and motocross racers. Number 1 is reserved for defending Champions in each series while numbers 2-99 are held for riders with career numbers and National numbers. Career numbers are earned when a rider accumulates enough points to be ranked in the top-10 of point scoring riders when the 250 and 450 Supercross and motocross standings are combined for the year. Additionally, National Champions have the option to pick a single-digit number, if one is available. Dylan Ferrandis had the option this year to use numbers 5 or 8, but he decided to stick with number 14 as his career number.

Jett Lawrence 2020 Fox Raceway National Aftermath-41Jett Lawrence earned the most points out of any rider who didn’t have and didn’t earn a career number in 2020. He would’ve been slated to run number 13, but, (assumably) due to superstitious reasons, the AMA gave him the option to not use this number and go with the next lowest two-digit number available which was 18. Jett was the only rider who didn’t earn a National number that was given an option for his 2021 number. The rest of the two-digit numbers were assigned based on the amount of points the rider earned this season.
