DREAM JOBS: HOW TO MAKE A LIVING DOING WHAT YOU LOVE (10/11/11)

JAMIE ELLIS
ROCKSTAR ENERGY SUZUKI MECHANIC

STARTING POINT: “I started out racing as an amateur. After college, one of my old sponsors hired me for a team he started. I haven’t looked back since. I worked with Andrew McFarlane at Yamaha of Troy, which was a complete pleasure. I was at KTM before coming over to the Canidae Kawasaki team. We had a really good year, and I’m happy to be a part of the Rockstar Suzuki team now.”

THE JOB: “This isn’t an industry where you can be cocky. I sweep the floors if it needs to be done?all the team personnel take turns. When we show up at the races, everything is the finished product, but a lot of hard work goes into making it that way. My favorite aspect of being a mechanic is reaching the podium. The greatest is knowing that your motor, suspension and hard work crossed the finish. That’s what every mechanic lives for.”
