DREAM JOBS: HOW TO MAKE A LIVING DOING WHAT YOU LOVE (11/03/11)

KRISTIAN KIBBY:
GEICO HONDA TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

STARTING POINT:
“I became an apprentice mechanic at a Range Rover dealership and raced motocross on the weekends. I was top-ten level in my state and a back marker at the Australian National level. I worked for free for one season as an intern for Jeff Leisk’s team. The following year, Team Suzuki offered me a job.”

THE JOB:
“I came over to the Geico team at the end of 2003 when Honda was debuting the CRF250 and needed mechanics with four-stroke experience. At first, I was only responsible for rebuilding the team’s engines. As the crew became more educated about four-strokes, it left me more time to test, develop, work with sponsors and seek other pieces of the puzzle. My dad’s a scientist, and my favorite aspect of the job is solving problems and coming up with ideas that bring race results.”
