Yamaha teammates Kyle Chisholm and Shawn Maffenbeier snagged the overalls at Round 9 of the Canadian Nationals in Ulverton, Quebec, on Sunday. Chisholm accomplished the task with 3-2 motos in the 450 class while Maffenbeier won the 250 class on the strength of 3-1 motos.

Colton Facciotti, 450 points leader, and Kaven Benoit, 250 points leader, won their respective opening motos and, ironically, both carded fifth in the second moto to record second overall on the day. Benoit and Facciotti were able to stretch their points lead over  Vince Friese and Mike Alessi respectively. Both Alessi and Friese had their ups and down in Ulverton, with Alessi scoring his worst finish of the season, thanks to 29-4 motos, that saw him take home a tepid 11th overall on the day. Friese, for his part, nailed down fifth overall on the strength of 12-2 motos.

In the 450 class, Alessi smashed his head pipe in moto one and rejoined the race a lap down. In moto two Alessi and Facciotti finish fourth and fifth behind Medalgia, Chisholm and Kiniry..

In the 250 class, Friese was intentionally T-boned by Karl Benoit in moto one—in retaliation for some previous move. Few in the Canadian pits had an sympathy for the rough riding Friese—who ended up 12th. Karel Benoit was DQ’ed and will not be allowed to ride at the final round in Walton. In the second moto Friese and Kaven Benoit were involved in an incident that saw point leader Benoit on the ground.

With one race left Facciotti leads Alessi by 44 points—which means that the Canadian can cruise to the Canadian title in Walton—barring disaster. As for Friese, he is now 42 points behind Kaven Benoit and is in the same boat as Alessi for Walton.
