Although this episode of Kawasaki’s Science of Supercross is about Roll-Offs versus tear-offs, it is really more about Roll-Offs. Roll-Offs have been around for over 20 years and while they are the number one choice for a super wet or rainy day, in the real world most riders seem to stick with tear-offs. The downside of Roll-Offs is that they can get water behind the film, the field of vision is just a narrow strip in front of your eyes and when you really need them they tend to fail. As for tear-offs’ downsides, they often come off all at once, if you want more than 3 or 4 tear-offs you have to use laminated stacks of 7, but laminated tear-offs are often sticky from the glue that holds the stack together. It all comes down to personal choice and experience.
