LARRY WOSICK AND HONEY LAKE MX TRACK TRY TO LIVE WITH NOISE REGULATIONS

Former Team Kawasaki rider Larry Wosick runs Honey lake MX track. He also knows a lot about noise regulations because the his country board of supervisors hired a consulting firm to monitor all noise from the race track. The results were very interesting. Wilson, Ihrig and Associates of Oakland, the noise consultants, began monitoring Honey lake because of a neighbors’ lawsuit.

The highest noise measured by the consultant was a helicopter passing by. The second (and most common noise) was traffic on Highway 395. Larry says that the consultants discovered that noise from Highway 395 consistently measures 74 decibels. The third highest was “a close between race a bird and the neighbor’s dog barking,” said Wosick.

Wosick says the current ordinance makes it difficult to hold a race without a violation. “We could, in effect, hold a motocross event at our facility, where no one the whole day ever starts an engine, pushing their bikes around the whole track, while a noise person is taking measurements. And we could be accused of violating the noise element.” Wosick said.

Larry is hoping that the county will increase the noise standard to equal ongoing noises around the track.

Thus is the life of a modern day track owner.
