2021 WORLD VET CHAMPIONSHIP | DAY #1 PRO RESULTS

Day one of racing at the 2021 Dubya USA World Vet Championships is in the books and although the we are tired from a long day of racing and shooting photos and videos, we wanted to post the results from the Pro classes from day one at Glen Helen. See below for the Pasha 125 Open 30+ results, 40+ Pro, 50+ Pro and the 25+ Expert class.

The Glen Helen track was as rough as ever, even Mike Alessi thought it was one of the roughest he’s ridden since the Pro Nationals (see our facebook video with Mike below). Sunday’s racing will include many of the classes that raced Saturday, except the Pro classes will be swapped out. Instead of Pasha 30+, 40+ Pro and 50+ Pro, we’ll have the 30+ Pro and the Pasha 125 Open 50+ Pro.

Check out the @MotocrossActionMag instagram story for more updates from Saturday and Sunday’s racing.

OVER-40: Day One of the 2021 Dubya World Vet Championship is over and it came with no surprises as the winners in the Over-40 Pro and Over-50 Pros were the same as last year. The Over-40 class saw a significant lack of attendance, especially at a race that had 972 entrants. The Over-40 class could only muster 9 finishers. Kris Keefer went 1-1, Travis Preston (a former Over-30 World Champ in 2013) went 2-2, while Dirt Bike’s Mark Tilley went 4-3 for third. Austrian KTM rider Michael Staufer’s 3-4 tied Tilley’s 4-3, but the better second moto gave the last step on the podium to Tilley.

OVER-50: Every World Vet follower was expecting a mega showdown between Billy Joe Mercier and Kurt Nicoll. Mercier had been winning all of the local SoCal Over-50 Expert/Pro races (since tuning 50 years olf last month) and Kurt had avoided any direct competition against him, waiting for the World Vet. When the gate dropped the two immediately went to the front, but Kurt was too strong and, as the first moto wore on, Mercier dropped back to a safe and sane second place. The second moto ended with a let-down as Mercier crash hard and was forced to finish 20th. Nicoll went on his happy way to his fifth World Vet Championship (four in the Over-50 Pro class).

OVER-25: The MXA team entered three test riders in the Over-25 Expert class and came away with a one-two-nine results, with Josh Mosiman easily winning both motos (to go with his 450 Pro victory on the same track at last week’s Octobercross World Vet warm-up race). Hawaiian Brian Medeiros got good starts on MXA’s Suzuki RM-Z450 and turned those into second overall with consistent 3-3 scores. Battle Grounds, Washington’s, Mason Wharton was second in the first moto, but ended up 7th in the second stanza to end up fifth overall, while Blayne Thompson put together a 14-2 day to leave him a disappointed 10th.

MXA test rider Brian Medeiros made it an MXA one-two of the Over-25 Expert class at Glen Helen.

PASHA 125 PRO: It was a foregone conclusion that Mike Alessi was going to win the $2500 first prize for taking the Over-30 125 Pasha Pro race. It would have taken a miracle or freak mud puddle for Alessi to lose. And while Dennis Stapleton did beat Mike Alessi last year, thanks to Mike’s poor line choice in the second turn of the muddy track, this year there were no mistakes as Mike went 1-1 in front of Sean Collier’s 3-2 and Jason Potter’s 2-4. Dominic Desimone could have been on the podium, but he got nabbed, with video, for cutting the track in the first moto and was penalized two spots for the infraction. Alessi made $2500, Collier $2500 and Potter $1500.
