ROBERTPOCIUSDTIt has to be a thrill for Robert Pocius (153) to be dueling with a rider who finished 7th in the AMA 125 Nationals, albeit in 1980. Gary Denton (14) won this battle.

JONORTNERDTJon Ortner (38) won the Over-50 Elite class on MXA’s 2017 Yamaha YZ450F test bike.

MURRAYDTPete Murray (7), Dave Eropkin (811), Bob Weber (37) and Jerry Black (M8) seek control of the air space over this jump.

JODYDTJody Weisel (52) and Lee Amaradio (47) have been racing against each other for decades. Dennis Smith (928), Dickie McMillen (5), Rich Stuelke (34) and Tony Parsons (68) lurk in the background

REISINGERDTThis is a pack that you don’t want to find yourself in the middle of. It includes Gary Denton (14), Pasha Afshar (L7), Robert Reisinger (96), David Cincotta (861) and Brian Burns (231).

KENTDTKent Reed (491) almost missed the start of the second Over-60 Expert moto. He made it to the starting line one second before the gate dropped. The adrenaline was running high and he got the holeshot.

JOSHFOUTDTJosh Fout (39) and Mark Taylor (126) engage in a classic four-stroke versus two-stroke duel. In this case, Fout’s outside line was faster.

DEEGANDTDeegan Von Lossberg hits the sweeping bend just past the REM scoring tower. Deegan would finish second in the 250 Pro class.

BRIANBURNSDTBrian Burns was third in the Vet Pro class behind former Grand Prix star Kurt Nicoll and AMA National rider Tony Amaradio. No shame in that.

BECKERDTSport car racer and former Pro Circuit Husqvarna racer Ernie Becker laid down the keys to his AMG Mercedes Benz to pick up the gauntlet on a 2017 Kawasaki KX250F.

DAN2DTAustralian Dan Alamangos (24) showed up in a brand-new, never worn, 1980s JT Racing, Yamaha jersey.

DAN1DTWhere did he get it? He found it in a box in Jody’s barn along with 100 other jersey’s from the good old days.

DAVIDNICOLLDTDavid Nicoll is the grandson of a Grand Prix winner (Dave Nicoll) and son of a rider who was runner-up in the 500 World Championships four times (Kurt Nicoll). It’s nice to see the family traditions being upheld.

kurtnicolldtKurt Nicoll was one of three World Vet Champions racing at REM this weekend. Nicoll won the Over-40 Pro class last year. This year’s World Vet, on November 5-6, will add an Over-50 Pro class to recognize the rising popularity of the age group. There will still be an Over-50 Expert class for riders who don’t want to go up against former factory riders, but there’s no money in the Expert class.

murrayDTPete Murray is a two-time World Vet Champion. He won the Over-40 Championship in 2000 and the Over-50 title in 2012. He finished second to Jon Ortner in the Over-50 Elite class at REM.

TOMWHITEDTAMA Hall of Famer Tom White won the Over-40 World Championship in 1990 — which should give you a clue of  how old Tom is today. We’ll help you with the math—1990 was 26 years ago.
