YUSUKE INOUE // THE INSPIRATION BEHIND HONDA’S SWITCH FROM A PLASTIC TO TITANIUM TANK IN 2017

“I designed the titanium tank. It was actually my project. The big challenge was finding titanium priced cheaper than plastic. At Honda, everyone says that titanium is too expensive. They told me that I couldn’t do it, because it was too expensive. I could do it for the factory bikes, but not the production model. I changed the design of the titanium tank. It’s a two-piece tank, with an upper half and lower half. Then it is welded together. That design didn’t make it too expensive, so we could use a titanium tank for the production model. The titanium tank is very nice.”

TWO-STROKE SPOTLIGHT: ANTHONY CUCCA’S HONDA CR250

cr250It’s great to see that a lot of two-stroke advocates have taken the liberty of building their own renditions of what a dream smoker should be. Some have built Frankenstein’s monster by melding different brands together, or combining old and new.

Anthony Cucca didn’t exactly reinvent the wheel with his project build, but instead took what he liked and put frame and engine together. It’s no secret that some model years are better than others. Cucca liked the 2001 Honda CR250 engine, but preferred the 2003 CR chassis. With the help of an ex-factory mechanic, Anthony made his dream become reality. Way to go! Learn all about Cucca’s idea in the words below.

“I’m a former racer from the NESC area. Due to a couple of serious injuries I am now a professional practice rider. Although I never raced this bike it was a dream of mine to build. It is a 2003 Honda CR250 chassis with a 2001 CR250 engine. I absolutely love the way this bike handles and the way the motor pulls.
“I had a former factory mechanic that you might have heard of help me, he worked for John Dowd. His name is Ron Bushey. Ron reworked the engine. He decked the cylinder and reshaped the head and we put in a Moto Tassinari V-Force3 reed cage matched with an Airstryker carb. I also had a local Pro, Billy Ainsworth, re-valve the suspension. It is by far the best two-stroke I have ever ridden.”

If you would like your bike to be featured in the “Two-Stroke Spotlight,” please email me at [email protected]. All I ask is that you give a breakdown of your bike and a detailed description of the thing. Please also send a few photos of your steed. By submitting your bike for the “Two-Stroke Spotlight,” you agree to release all ownership rights to the images and copy to MXA. Happy submitting your smoker!

2022 DUBYA WORLD VET NEWS! ALL-NEW THREE-DAY, THREE-MOTO RACE SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED

The 2022 Dubya World Vet Championship will take place on November 4-6 and every amateur rider will get in more track time and a chance to save money below.

The 38th Annual Dubya World Vet Motocross Championships will take place November 4th through the 6th. This is one of the sport’s most popular events with over a thousand riders traveling from every state in the union and over 20 different countries to compete for a prestigious World Vet Championship title. For 2022 we are looking forward to having more countries participate (given that the pandemic in 2020 and Visa restriction in 2021 stopped most foreign racers from showing up).

Swedish Grand Prix and ISDT racer Lars Larsson will be at the 2022 World Vet in hopes of winning his fifth World Vet crown—his win streak began back in 2001 when he won the Over-60 Expert class, he then won the  won the Over-70 class in 2011 (and repeated in 2012) and last year Lars took the Over-80 crown in 2021. The ten-year pattern (2001, 2011 and 2021) coincided with his 60th, 70th and 80th birthdays.

After a successful, but very busy race last year, we listened to your suggestions and we are excited to announce an all-new race format. The 2022 Dubya World Vet Motocross Championship will have a new three-moto format where riders will have one day of practice (Friday) and two days of competitive racing (Saturday and Sunday) to crown the World Vet Champion of each class. By changing to this format, we should be able to keep from cutting any laps and even have time to clean up the rougher sections of the track between motos.

Glen Helen builds a special track every year just for the World Vet. Look at this photo and try to figure out what’s going on here.

Racing will begin Saturday morning with all amateur classes racing. We will race halfway into the second motos and then finish the 2nd and 3rd motos on Sunday. The Over-40 Pros, Over-50 Pros and Over-30 Pasha 125 Pros will race two motos for the championship on Saturday. On Sunday the Over-30 Pro class and Over-50 Pasha 125 Pros will race. The World Vet Cup of Nations will be held again this year with the first moto on Saturday and a second moto on Sunday. Be on the lookout, a tentative race schedule will be posted a few weeks before the event.

Trevor Nelson (with camera), Josh Mosiman (12) and Josh Fout (92) just finished working together at the Pala 450 National last Saturday and will be teaming up at Hangtown this coming Saturday, but they never miss the World Vet. Josh Mosiman won the Over-25 Championship in 2021.
