TWO-STROKE SPOTLIGHT: JEFF SAVAGE’S 2005 SUZUKI RM250

“Daryl. Before having my shoulder replaced last November I bought a YZ125 and rode it for the last month prior to my surgery. In May I got back on the 125 and was having so much fun I started looking for a RM250. I ended up with a clapped out 2005 RM250 with a 2004 rear brake caliper, 2002 rear brake pedal that rubbed high on the frame, lower shock linkage that was so worn out the needles were embedded in the aluminum, and on it went.”

Since the 2005 RM250 was the last two-stroke to win a championship Jeff decided to go with the Ricky Carmichael number 4 using Decal Works graphics. 

“Thanks to Ebay I found an entire linkage set up for $39. From there I took it down to the frame and started over. The rear wheel was cracked so I laced up a Tusk rim to the Bulldog spline drive spokes and Talon billet hub with new Tusk rotor. Sent the cylinder with a new piston to Millennium for replating, and the bottom end to Reynard Modifications for a new crank and bearings. Robert also redid the suspension. Rocky Mountain ATV MC was the go to for all new bearings front to back, plastics, Moto Tassinari V3 reeds, carb kit, tires, tubes, grips, bars, new OEM rear brake caliper and hoses. What started out to be a refresh turned into a complete rebuild. Picked up seat cover and graphics from Ebay and due to the fact that the 2005 RM was the last two-stroke to win a SX championship I went with the #4 backgrounds from Decal Works. Now my YZ450F sits idle as this 59 year old has fun on two-strokes. Included is a pic of Jimmy Albertson taking her for a spin at Reynard Raceway.”

The shock also counters rider fatigue by eliminating bottoming out and decreasing diving, and minimizes impact to the ski due to increased lower fork protection.

TRIO is compatible with all snow bike kits as long as the ARO spindle and ski are used. It also attaches to most brands of dirt bikes. The system retails for $899.99 and requires an install kit depending on bike type. It will be available at Timbersled dealers and online in September.

Back in 2015 the Chad Reed TwoTwo Motorsports team of Reedy and Josh Grant had the best looking bikes in the pits. Chad also had one Supercross win and two podium finishes that year. At the midway point of the 2018 outdoor Nationals the TwoTwo team ran out of resources and withdraw from the series with Chad folding the team.
