TWO-STROKE SPOTLIGHT: JAKE BACH’S 2002 SUZUKI RM125

“My name is Jake Bach and this is my 2002 Suzuki RM125 that I rebuilt. The bike was well maintained by the owner before me. The frame and subframe were sent out to be powder coated black. The bottom end had low hours so the top end was rebuilt with a Wiseco top end kit and the cylinder was in great condition. The pipe and silencer were replaced with an FMF Fatty and a Shorty silencer. The OEM hubs were laced up to Excel gold rims and the spokes were replaced with OEM. The plastics are UFO and the seat is SDG and I went with the 2007 OEM graphics. The bars, clutch and grips are Pro Taper.”

INSIDE DEAN WILSON’S FIREPOWER HONDA CRF450

FOX’S SOCAL HEADQUARTERS SOLD, BUT IT WASN’T OWNED BY FOX

The front entrance.

According to the Orange County Register: Rexford Industrial Realty has acquired the Fox Racing headquarters in Irvine, California, for $40 million. The 82,645-square-foot building is leased to the extreme sports company, Fox, which was acquired in August 2022 by Vista Outdoor for $540 million. Vista owns 40 brands in the outdoor apparel and accessories market including Remington Ammunition, Bushnell, CamelBak, Bushnell Golf, Bell Helmets, Giro, QuietKat and Federal Ammunition.

The lobby.

Griffin Realty Trust, the seller, bought the building at 16752 Armstrong Ave. for $27.25 million in October 2013. The facility, with a distinctive, arched red entrance and adjacent BMX track, has “themed architecture” that spans two floors of office space with conference rooms, common areas, a lobby and designated workspaces. Fox has a lease and technically a new landlord, so they aren’t moving.

MXA MINI TEST // GUTS RACING RJ WING SEAT COVER

The Guts RJ Wing seat uses a standard Guts ribbed gripper seat cover with 1-inch-wide inserts on each side. The wing-like inserts use Guts’ ultra-lightweight Phantom foam, and they’re sewn into the seat cover to create bulges at knee height to improve a rider’s grip on the bike.

VERDICT: The RJ Wing seat lessens arm pump, delivers better grip and saves energy. Once you mentally adjust to having 1-inch spacers between you and your bike, you find that it is significantly easier to grip the bike in the whoops, sand or any time you are standing up.

DIGITS: $149.99 (seat cover), $349.99 (complete seat)—www.gutsracing.com or (530) 642-9118.

MXA MOTO TIP // WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN BUYING A USED BIKE

TEN-THINGS_FEB

Wear signs. Many sellers try to cover up the signs of an aging bike with new plastic and decals. Don’t fall for the flashy stuff. Look at the wear on the footpeg teeth. Make sure the wheels are true. Check the steering head for cracks. Start the bike and run it through the gears (to make sure they are all there). If you have to replace the tires, chain and sprockets on a used bike, the bill will be over $300. Factor wear into your offer.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK // KEN ROCZEN TALKS ABOUT SWITCHING SUSPENSION COMPANIES AT ROUND 2

“We pulled some big moves this week and made some changes to the bike and treated today a little bit like a test day. Switching over to Factory Connection suspension set-up was huge and having those guys here with me really made a big difference. We narrowed our window down on some of the changes for the main event, so I was super happy. I had a poor start and came from the back and just overall had a really good main event. I worked my way up. We ended up fourth, but I had a really good battle with Barcia, and I could charge the entire way. I just really enjoyed this race; it was the best race in a long time. So I’m really, really happy with how the team has been working, how I’ve been working, and good things will happen when we’re all pulling on the same string. And we’ve been putting in serious hours, so there’s more to come. The podium is reachable. We’re very close so I’m excited to get back to work and we’re going to check off weekend after weekend, stay healthy, and just keep working forward.”
