JUSTiN BARCIA MAKES JOHNNY O’MARA HIS TRAINER

maxresdefault

The question is, can Johnny O’Mara make Justin Barcia into a champion again? This is a tough question. Why? Because I don’ t think it is his fitness that is holding him back. It is the way he rides the bike that doesn’t allow him to ride to his full potential. He is stuck riding it like a 250F. Revving it to the moon and abusing the clutch. A 450F does not work like that, especially a Honda CFR450 with limited top end and over rev. His old trainer Coleen Millsaps tried to drill new techniques into him, but he was never willing to change. If Justin has come to turns to what is holding him back then there is a chance. This will not be easy. It is no simple task to teach an old dog new tricks. Johnny has been the best and worked with the best so he knows what it takes. Come A1 we hope to see a new and improved Bam Bam curdisey of Johnny O.

MXA FITNESS TIP OF THE WEEK: BOX JUMPS
keep-calm-and-jump-around-9

WHY?

The biggest benefit of the box jump is that it improves the reaction of fast-twitch muscle fibers throughout the body. You work your entire body while getting your heart rate pumping. This exercise requires your leg and core muscles to contract quickly so you can generate maximal force with each leap. The higher and more explosive you jump, the more muscle tissue that is activated. Box jumps are also very demanding on the metabolic system making them a great exercise to incorporate in your fat loss training.

HOW?

To perform box jumps, you will need a stable surface,  preferably a plyometric box between 12-36 inches, depending on your abilities. Assume an athletic position, with your feet about shoulder-width apart, at a comfortable distance from the box. Start the box jump by quickly getting into a quarter squat while engaging the hamstrings and glutes. Then, forcefully extend your hips, swing your arms and push your feet though the floor to propel yourself onto the box. When landing, think of absorbing the force instead of sticking the landing. Landing soft and quietly is your goal. You should land in a squat position with your knees slightly above 90 degrees with your chest up.
