ELI TOMAC: “IF IT’S GOOD, IT’S GOOD, IF IT’S NOT, IT’S NOT”

Will Eli Tomac race this weekend in Phoenix? Here is what he said, “I’m going there this Saturday, and if my shoulder is good, it’s good; if it’s not, it’s not. It’s still bad enough that I’m not sure which way it will go.” Tomac has seen doctors and started a physical therapy regimen in order to heal in time to race this weekend, but he will make the final decision on Saturday.
YAMAHA’S REVOLUTIONARY AIR FORKS: WE WERE JUST KIDDING!
Real Yamaha air forks…real old. Photo: Dan Alamangos
A lot of motocross fans thought that MXA’s Yamaha air forks (shown in the Weekend Report last week) were some futuristic prototype air forks. We were flooded with requests for information about the radical looking forks and if they would be coming on the 2015 YZ-Fs. But, in fact, the MXA gang had been playing around at the races with a set of 1976 Yamaha YZ125 air fork canisters and decided to put them on our 2014 Yamaha YZ125. So, they actually were true-to-life Yamaha air forks, but the canisters were 38 years old.

KEVIN STRIJBOS HITS FALLEN BIKE AND BREAKS PELVIS
American fans will remember Kevin from when he and Clement Desalle raced a couple AMA Nationals last year. Strijbos will be healed in time for the Qatar GP.
Suzuki Grand Prix rider Kevin Strijbos will be out of action for at least four weeks after breaking part of his pelvis bone as a result of a crash while training at Lommel in Belgium on Tuesday. Just like Ken DeDycker a few weeks ago, Strijbos could not avoid hitting a fallen rider. Strijbos went the same doctor, Dr. Claes at the Herentals Hospital, to be looked at. Suzuki thinks he will be ready for the start of the GPs on March 1.
Kevin said,”Obviously I’m pretty gutted about this. When I got to the face of the jump I saw someone waving, but it was already too late to react and I landed with my front wheel just in front of the seat of the fallen bike. It’s a setback, and a shame, as my preparations were going really well. We had a super-good training week with the team in Portugal and everything was heading in the right direction. Sadly it is one of those things that is a part of our sport.”

MOTOGP DOES DRUG TESTING: ANT WEST’S RESULTS ERASED FROM THE RECORD BOOKS
Anthony West has served his suspension, but the ramifications are still coming. Photo: Honda Pro Racing
There is always a cry from the wilderness for thorough drug testing in motorcycle racing?but rarely is anyone caught. Not so in road racing. Moto2 road racer Anthony West has had his race results for the last 18 months removed from the record books after the Australian rider failed a drug test back at LeMans in May of 2012. It took a long time for the punishment to come down. The tests confirmed that West’s system had methylhexaneamine in it. Methylhexaneamine was initially developed as a nasal decongestant, but it is a stimulant and is considered a vasoconstrictor that sends blood to the areas of the body that need it. It is on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) banned substance list. For his part, West says that he drank an energy drink, Mesomorph, without any knowledge that it contained the banned substance. WADA didn’t buy that excuse. West could also have to return any prize money or bonuses earned since the LeMans test.
