F1 DRIVER FERNANDO ALONSO BAILS OUT RACE TEAM… CYCLING TEAM
Fernando.
Two-time Formula One Champion Fernando Alonso, a long-time fan of cycling, is reportedly bailing out the Spanish-based Tour de France team “Euskaltel Euskadi.” According to sources in Spain, the deal will cost close to $8,000,000. Alonso will not foot the bill himself, but use his Formula 1 fame to get his sponsors to back the team. Alonso earns a reported $30 million salary from Ferrari alone. Alonso hopes to sign Spanish cycling star Sammy Sanchez to lead the team. Alonso would not be the first F1 Champion to own a race team; Nigel Mansell owned a British Youth cycling team and Kimi Raikonnen owns the Ice One Grand Prix motocross team that sponsors Xavier Boog and Rui Goncalves this year and will be the official Husky 450 team in 2014 with Tyla Rattray and Todd Waters. Back in the day, Dan Gurney sponsored many motocross racers and even was a part owner of U.S. Montesa.

ALL-NEW 2014 KTM 250R TWO-STROKE TRAIL BIKE
2014 KTM 250R Freeride is not destined to be imported to the USA.
Featuring a detuned, quiet and torquey version of the KTM 250 EXC two-stroke engine, the KTM 250R Freeride is designed as a classic trail bike. It is true that the motorcycle industry doesn’t make many low-tech trail bikes anymore, but the Freeride could change that for riders looking to plonk through the woods or down the trail. KTM also make a 350cc four-stroke version.
The exhaust pipe looks more like a trials bike pipe instead of the motocross pipe, but that is part of what makes it quiet and environmentally friendly.
You could easily hop-up the 250R, but that isn’t the point of a bike designed to pick its way through offroad terrain. It has a special six-speed tranny and sixth gear is “overdrive.”

CHAD REED GOES TWISHING ON TWITTER
Everybody knows by now that Chad Reed is switching brands for 2014, and that Honda has already gotten all of their bikes and parts back from Chad’s team, but what color will Chad be on in 2014? We won’t guess, but Chad says that it won’t be blue in his recent flurry of tweets.
THE FRIDAY REVEAL…OF SORTS
On Friday, August 30, 2013, Chad didn’t actually reveal what bike he was going to ride…you didn’t really expect that did you? Instead, he announced that he won’t be riding for the Ricky Carmichael RCH Suzuki team.
THE SATURDAY REVEAL…OF SORTS
On Saturday August 31,2013, Chad sent out an Instagram photo of a KTM with works forks, white plastic and his sponsors decals on the fender. More Twishing? Or not.
WHAT WE WERE TESTING LAST WEEK?
Between the time needed for the 2014 models that we already have in the pipeline, the MXA gang spent some time testing Adam Cianciarulo’s Pro Circuit KX250F.
And, we started testing the 2014 KTM 150SX two-stroke. We’ve just started on the 150SX, so the test won’t be ready for the mag for another month or more.

USED IT, ABUSED IT, TESTED IT: 7602 RACING ADJUSTABLE KTM BRAKE TIP
7602 Racing’s 7075 aluminum KTM brake tip is a bolt-on extension for the KTM brake pedal. It is not only more aggressive, but it is adjustable fore and aft across a 1/2-inch range.
VERDICT: You wouldn’t think that a half-inch would make any difference. But, every MXA test rider raved about the 7602 tip. They didn’t rave about the anodized orange color (also available in black), sharp teeth or brake snake hole. Nope, they loved the fact that the longer brake pedal tip was more accessible and more tactile. The longer length allowed them to use more of the ball of their foot for more control. $34.95?(719) 274-0606 or www.7602racing.com.

WITH 30 DAYS TO GO ? THESE ARE 2013 MXDN TEAMS
On September 29, 2013, the 2013 Motocross des Nations will take place in Germany. Last year there were 33 teams and there are 41 teams currently entered for 2013. Apart from the big guns (USA, Belgium, France, England and Germany), there are countries that are coming to the MXDN with no hope of making the “A” main (and maybe not the “B’main). They come out of the spirit of the sport, to represent their country. We tip our hats to the teams from Mongolia, Israel, Greece, Iceland, Romania, Lithuania, Thailand, Croatia, Hungary, Poland and Venezuela.
