USED IT, ABUSED IT, TESTED IT: MX-TECH MXT-SFF KAYABA PSF CONVERSION
In a Tour de Force of suspension design, MX-Tech reworks the Kayaba PSF air forks to turn them into single-spring Showa SFF forks?but with a twist. To fight the dramatic pressure rise at the end of the PSF’s stroke, MX-Tech turns the air leg into a low-pressure unit, while installing a 1.0 kg/mm fork spring in the other leg. The end product is neither PSF nor SFF, Kayaba nor Showa?but a hybrid blend of the best of both systems.
VERDICT: MX-Tech’s Kayaba PSF to MXT/SFF fork conversion may be complex, but it works great. $998.00?www.mx-tech.com or (877) 850-5114.

OAKLAND SUPERCROSS FLASHBACK: THE JAMMER’S TIRE
In 1979 Kawasaki factory rider Jammin’ Jimmy Weinert showed up at the Oakland Supercross with a neck brace and a paddle tire. The Oakland track was 100 percent sand and Weinert’s paddle tire proved to be unbeatable. A few weeks later the AMA banned the use of paddle tires in professional motocross. Photo: Jody Weisel

USED IT, ABUSED IT, TESTED IT: 2014 ALIAS A1 GEAR
Last year the MXA test crew complained about certain aspects of the Alias A1 line. To their credit, Alias answered every issue to make a pant that fit better, had more leather on the knees, was more protective and was roomier in the thighs. The new A1 gear is light, breathable and attractive. The Alias jersey was especially comfortable.
VERDICT: What a turnaround! Alias went from a flawed 2013 gear line to one of the MXA wrecking crew’s favorites in 2014. It’s reassuring when a company cares about its product. $129.95 (pant) $49.95 (jersey)?www.aliasmx.com or (760) 930-1712.
MEMORIES OF THE WAY WE WERE: THE FIRST SUPER MINI ?1973 HODAKA DIRT SQUIRT
As was the tradition with Hodaka, every bike they produced had a distinctive name?although the “Racer Clam” graphic on the air box was a little odd. The 1973 Dirt Squirt was a 100cc, five-speed machine with a 19-inch front wheel and 17-inch rear wheel. It was a pre-shrunk Super Rat and the first ever Super Mini.

USED IT, ABUSED IT, TESTED IT: 7602 RACING ADJUSTABLE KTM BRAKE TIP
7602 Racing’s 7075 aluminum KTM brake tip is a bolt-on extension for the KTM brake pedal. It is not only more aggressive, but it is adjustable fore and aft across a 1/2-inch range.
VERDICT: You wouldn’t think that a half-inch would make any difference. But, every MXA test rider raved about the 7602 tip. They didn’t rave about the anodized orange color (also available in black), sharp teeth or brake snake hole. Nope, they loved the fact that the longer brake pedal tip was more accessible and more tactile. The longer length allowed them to use more of the ball of their foot for better control. $34.95?(719) 274-0606 or www.7602racing.com.
