WHAT STANDS OUT? Here’s a list of things that stand out with the 7602 Racing adjustable KTM brake tip.

(1) Idea. With so many riders switching from the “Big Four” to KTM or Husqvarna motorcycles, they sometimes complain about the Austrian brake pedals being tucked in too much or the length being too short. KTM addressed this problem with the 2017 models by increasing the length of the brake pedal by 10mm. But, the brake pedal tip could still be larger and the teeth sharper. This is where 7602 Racing comes into the picture. The men at 7602 Racing specialize in CNC-machining KTM accessories (and by osmosis Husqvarna parts). They quickly realized back in 2012 that KTM’s stamped-steel brake tip was removable, which meant that they could build a 7075-aluminum brake tip that would slip right onto the stock KTM mounting holes, have more aggressive teeth and be adjustable across a 1/2-inch range. In essence, 7602 Racing extended the KTM brake pedal by 10mm five years before KTM did.

(2) Fitment. 7602 Racing makes a 7075 aluminum brake pedal tip that fits all KTMs from 2004 to 2016. It has sharp teeth; features positive-draft mud ports; is available in blue, black or orange; and can be adjusted to three different lengths. MXA’s focus was on 7602 Racing’s new 2017–2018 KTM/Husqvarna brake tip. It differs from the 2016 brake pedal tip in that its bolt holes are angled to fit the 2017–2018 KTM brake pedal. It is available in orange, blue or black and has stainless steel cleats that can be threaded into the brake tip at whatever height you prefer. The stainless steel cleats offer superb brake pedal grip. Best of all, test riders were able to choose the degree of aggressiveness they wanted by screwing the cleats in so that more or less of them extended out of the aluminum.

(3) Performance. The MXA test riders already knew that the 7602 Racing brake tip was a great addition to pre-2017 KTMs, but since KTM had lengthened its brake pedal for 2017 and 2018, we were unsure if it would be as effective on the late-model machines. Amazingly, we liked it. It made it easier to use the brake pedal, even if you didn’t get all of your foot on the pedal. It was much more effective in muddy conditions than the stock pedal. Best of all, the larger size of the brake tip made it easier for riders coming off of Hondas, Yamahas, Suzukis or Kawasakis to find the tucked-in KTM brake pedal.

WHAT’S THE SQUAWK? It is important to remember that if you run the stainless steel teeth up high, you will need to lower the brake pedal to compensate. Additionally, you must Loctite the stainless steel teeth into the pedal tip. An Allen wrench is included, along with a couple of extra stainless steel cleats. Luckily, if the Allen slot clog with mud or wear out, you can remove the old cleats with vise grips and put new tips in.

MXA RATING: It’s rare that you find an under-$40 product that does more than add anodized bling. The 7602 Racing brake pedal tip improves KTM/Husky brakes—and adds bling as a bonus.
