THINGS GET WORSE IN MOTO GP

Get out the eraser?Petronas is gone.

Every couple weeks there is bad news from the Moto GP circuit?mostly related to the slump in motorcycle sales. Last week the bad news came to the Yamaha MotoGP team. After losing Fiat as a title sponsor last year, the Yamaha road race team got the majoroty of its sppnsorship money in 2011 from Malaysian petroleum giant Petronas. Now, Petronas will end its sponsorship package before the 2012 season starts. The cost of MotoGP racing will now fall largely on the Yamaha factories shoulders?which drove Suzuki out of MotoGP this season.

THE FARM MX TRACK OWNER ARRESTED FOR ARSON IN INDIANOLA, IOWA

The Farm MX gets some unwanted publicity.

According to Des Moines Channel 13 news, Indianola race track owner David Brommel was arrested on arson charges. The Farm MX owner, Brommel, is accused of burning down the former DHS building in Knoxville, Iowa, on Christmas day, and authorities are looking into whether he torched the DHS office building in Warren County earlier this month. The motive, according to authorities, was that the DHS took away two of his children after he was arrested on drug charges last month.

THIS WEEK’S WOUNDED & WAITING LIST

You can see the crack in the X-ray on the top of Roczen’s wrist.

With the start of the AMA Supercross series only one week away, three riders bit the dust last week…and will have to heal up before returning to action.

Ken Roczen: The current 250 World Champion broke his wrist and will now move to the 250 East series for team KTM

Michael Byrne: The Aussie cracked the C6 vertebra in his neck while going through the whoops at Chad Reed’s Florida test track. He will miss several rounds of the 450 class

P.J. Larsen: Larsen crashed and broke his hand. The JDR KTM rider will try to heal up in time to for the February 18th 250 East opener in Dallas.

Jimmy Decotis: The Geico Honda rider crashed at Milestone and, in his own words, “jacked up my feet.” Decotis’ broken ankle (or ankles) will force him to move to the 250 East.

BELGIUM GOVERNMENT TO FINANCE THE MXDN IN 2012

Everyone in Europe thinks that moving the MXDN to the sand at Lommel will stop the American juggernaut, but history doesn’t support that idea.

According to Britain’s Moto: “News has filtered through that the wonderful Belgium government will fund the 2012 Motocross of Nations which is going to be held at the deep sand circuit of Lommel. Sources close to the event are suggesting they will finance the event to the tune of 250,000 euros (about $325,000), amazing news for Lommel and great news for Youthstream. With that amount of finance on offer the government are requesting to be involved with communication and PR of the race which is set for September 30th 2012.”

Do we see a new Lamborghini in Giuseppe Luongo’s garage? On a side note, the last time the MXDN or Trophee des Nations was held at Lommel?Team USA won with Donnie Hansen, Chuck Sun, Johnny O’Mara and Danny LaPorte.

DAVE THORPE IS BACK WITH HONDA

Team manager and former 500 World Champion Dave Thorpe has returned to Honda with two new British-based Honda race teams. Team number one is the Buildbase Honda Race Team. ROBBIE MADDISON CASHES IN ON THE BIG JUMP

Three new sponsors in one week…what was up?

The money in freestyle isn’t what it once so, so the most enterprising jumpers have to maximize their exposure. With Robbie Maddison getting max exposure for his New Year’s Eve jump, he was busy signing deals. Maddison did set a record, but didn’t make it to 400 feet (at least not on TV). New press releases were spun out leading up to the jump. Here are some examples:

Arnette: Arnette is hyped to announce that FMX innovator, Robbie Maddison, is joining the family as the latest member of its freestyle motocross team. Known for blowing minds with body varials and massive airs, Maddo will be wearing the new Arnette Series 3MX goggle as he attempts to break the motorcycle distance jump record of 391 feet across San Diego Bay during “Red Bull: New Year. No Limits.”

Kite: Australian FMX star Robbie “Maddo” Maddison will be using Kite/D.I.D wheelsets and a Brembo braking system from Dubya USA in his spectacular New Year’s Eve jump at the Embarcadero Marina Park in the downtown area of San Diego Bay.

Skullcandy: If there’s one thing that exemplifies the Skullcandy brand, it’s a born rebel. The no-holds-barred, boldly-go-where-no-man-has-gone-before pioneering attitude is central to the Skullcandy philosophy, and we’ve tended to attract like-minded individuals along the way. That’s why we are so stoked to welcome an FMX icon to the team: Robbie “Maddo” Maddison.

NICKY HAYDEN EATS DIRT?TASTES JUST LIKE ASPHALT

Nicky Hayden will now have less time to get ready for the 2012 MotoGP season.

Nicky Hayden’s 2012 MotoGP season got off on the wrong foot when he reportedly broken his left scapula and fractured two ribs at an indoor dirt track in Owensboro, Kentucky. The Ducati Corse rider was riding for the first time since breaking his scaphoid at the Valencian GP on November 6th.
