DALLAS SUPERCROSS RESULTS: THE TOP 20
Chad Reed’s crash has put a damper on the thrilling points chase that seemed to be winding up. The series isn’t to the halfway point yet and it has come down to the two Ryans. Even if Reed comes back, he lost 25 points in one night. Meanwhile, Stewart has lost his mojo…when he finds it again, he will have to dig himself out of a big points deficit. Trey Canard never really got going before he was struck down by the issues with the Tuffblox cover. There are more races left than have been held?anyone can still win. At the moment the series has two favorites?the all-out attack plan of Villopoto and Dungey’s conservative approach to getting on the podium every week. Will it be the tortoise or the hare?

MOVIN’ MARV WILL MOVE UP…CAN HE MOVE ON FROM THERE?

Movin’ Marv.

True to his word, Roger DeCoster is going to give Marvin Musquin a chance to race the 450 Supercross class…most likely at St. Louis and Daytona. Roger has said earlier that, “I think that when you hire a top-ranked 450 rider, he will struggle on the 350 compared to having a 250 rider move up to it. The 350SXF is a great bike and an almost perfect transition bike for riders coming from the 250 class.” Musquin, and later in the season Ken Roczen, will get a chance to test Roger’s theory. Roger says that they are both on scheduled to move to the 450 class in 2014.

AUSTRALIAN SUPERCROSS PROMOTER CALLS IT QUITS…WHAT’S NEXT DOWN UNDER?

The Australian Supercross Championship is dead…for now. Global Action Sports announced that Super X, the Australasian Supercross Championship, will be stopped due to a substantial financial loss over the past four years. The series was started in 2008 as a partnership between Global Action and Chad Reed. That relationship soured when Reed cut back on racing Australian Supercross.

Global Action Sports, Michael Porra, said,”It is with very heavy hearts we have made this decision, but the bottom line is that there are not enough paying fans to support the huge expense of putting this series on. Even in year two with Chad Reed racing at every round we saw a significant decline in ticket sales where we averaged approximately 6000 fans per round. This trend continued in year three and in year four we averaged only 3500 fans per round resulting in a seven-figure loss.”

Meanwhile, Motorcycling Australia, the Australian Laurel to the AMA’s Hardy, released a statement saying, “Motorcycling Australia (MA) is seeking Expressions of Interest from promoters to host the 2012 Australian Supercross Championship. Promoters are able to express their interest to coordinate the entire series and/or one or more rounds, commencing late 2012 to early 2013.”

Anyone interested in losing seven-figures?

WANT TO BUY A DUCATI…THIS ONE COSTS S1.6 BILLION, BUT COMES WITH A FACTORY

For $1,600,000,000 you get the factory, this bike and lunch with Valentino Rossi.

Ducati is up for sale. An Italian financial paper (Il Sole24ore), says that the Bonomi family, who owns Ducati, wants to sell the famous marque for a price of approximately 1 billion Euro ($1,600,000,000)?three times what they paid for it.

“Ducati is the perfect company, but in order to grow further it needs a world class industrial partner.  This year we will work towards finding that partner,” Investindustrail president Andrea Bonomi told the Financial Times. The most likely buyer would be a competitor or large automobile company. Mahindra, BMW, Volkswagen and Mercedes are all considered potential bidders.

FIRST LOOK! 2013 BRD REDSHIFT MX ELECTRIC MOTOCROSS BIKE

This is the proof of concept design…the real deal was shown at the Indy Show over the weekend.

BRD will unveiled its new electric motocross bike at the Indy Motorcycle Show this weekend. The RedShift MX shares the 40hp, 5.2kWh drive train and monocoque aluminum chassis with the RedShift SuperMoto that was unveiled in San Francisco last August . At 250 pounds, in a full size race-ready chassis, the RedShift line is the most power- and energy-dense electric motorcycle planned for production.

According to CEO, Marc Fenigstein, “Our goal has always been to just build a faster motorcycle than the gas race bikes we own and love. We believe electric is a valid approach to performance, and so far our testing has shown that we are on track to achieving our goals.”

DRUG TESTING CONTINUES…MORE RIDERS CALLED IN

If the early morning surprise drug tests by WADA weren’t enough…and they aren’t really…after the San Diego Supercross a new batch of riders were called into the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) offices (set up in the stadium) for another round of testing?including Dean Wilson, James Stewart, Matt Moss and Ryan Dungey. The inclusion of 250 West riders Moss and Wilson is a first because the 250 class is not FIM sanctioned and they have never been included in the WADA program before.

UNDERGROUND MX TO HOST LORETTA LYNN QUALIFIER NEXT WEEKEND

The Loretta Lynn’s South Central Area Qualifier comes to Underground MX Park in Kemp, Texas, Feb. 25-26. The track is located on 75 acres of shady east Texas ranch land, less than an hour south and east of Dallas and is a relatively new facility. It is no secret that Underground wants to get an AMA National (which means getting the Freestone, Texas, date)…and step one is to hold a Loretta Lynn qualifier to get your foot in the door with MX Sports. At the Area Qualifier, Underground MX Park will have a concession stand, 23 full service RV sites, a restroom and shower facility, and plenty of space designated for tent camping.

For the area qualifier, racers are expected to begin showing up Thursday, Feb. 23. Track practice will be held on Friday, Feb. 24, and racing will commence on Saturday morning, following 9 a.m. track practice. A full day of racing is scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday. CANADIAN WOMEN’S NATIONAL MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP SCHEDULE

The Canadian Women’s Nationals be split into East/West format with three rounds for each region. Plus, the Women’s races will be held on Amateur Days of the selected Monster Energy Motocross Nationals.

“I am very excited about the Women’s Nationals this coming summer. I think a lot more girls will participate this year now that the series is on amateur days because the track won’t be as rough and the pressure to perform will be much less,” commented the 2011 CMRC Western Women’s Champion, Denaye Giroux.

CMRC is pleased to present the Women’s National Championships and trust the changes for 2012 will encourage more women competitors to participate in the growing series. “This will be the seventh year we have held the Women’s Nationals and I’m very happy to continue the tradition in 2012. For the series to continue to grow, it is very important for young woman across the country to support the series, even if it is just one round. Now that the women’s nationals will be held on amateur days, that will make each round even more important because the points will count for both the national and the respective regional series that takes place,” stated CMRC’s President, Mark Stallybrass.

MEANWHILE…THE AMERICAN WOMEN GET AN OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT REVERSING THE RULE BOOK

WMX Competition Bulletin 2012-1
It is necessary to modify the WMX Pro Rules with regard to the National Moto format. As written, it states that the WMX Nation Moto will consist of one race which will be 15 minutes plus one lap.
Accordingly, the following modification is made to the WMX Supplemental Rules (2.17) Race Program:

The WMX class will race two (2) motos which will be 15 minutes plus one (1) lap each. The official race length will be determined once the white flag is displayed to the leader, followed by the checkered flag.
Although MX Sports Pro Racing prefers not to make rule changes during the season, in this case it is necessary
