RIDE SHOTGUN WITH JAMES STEWART FOR A LAP OF THE ANAHEIM II TRACK

TYLER BOWERS KEEPS ON KEEPIN’ ON IN KENTUCKY ARENACROSS

Babbitt’s Monster Energy/AMSOIL Kawasaki presented by Maxxis’ Tyler Bowers grabbed his 10th win of the season in front of his hometown crowd in Lexington, Kentucky. In the 25-lap main event, FMF Power/Poynt TUF Honda’s Jeff Gibson grabbed the holeshot and early lead, with Bowers in tow. On Lap two, Bowers passed Gibson, only to have his rival fight back one lap later. The pair paced one another for the next eight laps before Bowers made another pass on Lap 11. Once he worked his way back into the lead, Bowers stayed out front while Bella’s Cupcakes’ Zach Ames moved into second. Gibson finished third. Bowers extended his points lead to 21 over Gibson, as the series heads west.

The 2012 AMA Arenacross Series season continues next weekend, Saturday, February 11, with its 10th round of the championship from Fresno, Calif., at the Save Mart Center.

ANAHEIM II’S TIMED PRACTICE: NO DRAMA, BUT SURPRISES AT THE TOP

In powerhouse fields that include Tomac, Wilson, Seely and Musquin in the 250 class and Stewart, Reed, Dungey and Villopoto in the 450s?it comes as a surprise that Nico Izzi and Justin Brayton would sit on top of the time tables. Good for them because someone needs to shake up the Big Four in both classes?for the sake of adding more spice to the racing.

SUPERMAC TALKS ABOUT WORKING WITH ANDREW SHORT, HIS NEW TEAM & TRYING TO PEAK AT THE RIGHT TIME

THE WOMEN GET THEIR SECOND MOTO BACK: MX SPORTS REVERSES ITSELF

Having caused a tempest in a teapot by announcing that the WMX women would only race one moto in this year’s 2012 Nationals, MX Sports has reversed that decision. Davey Coombs said, “They will run two motos this summer after all. After making some tweaks in the afternoon schedules for the 2012 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championships, the girls will now run one extended practice on Saturday morning, then a first moto that goes right before the LCQ races for the 450 and 250 classes. Their second moto will be during the intermission; they will only run at the end of the day if we get into a weather delay or a TV timing issue for the live broadcast races.”

LE TOUQUET: WE’D PREFER HAWAII TO A FRIGID FRENCH BEACH IN FEBRUARY

Translation: 40-year-old Yamaha rider Jean Claude Mousse (pronounced Moo-Say) won the Le Touquet for the third time in his career on Sunday. Mousse had a great battle with Nicolas Aubin, but finally won the race with an advantage of 1 minute and 23 seconds over factory Suzuki rider Tanel Leok. You might see reports that Nicolas Aubin finished second overall, but he was demoted to 13th when he didn’t take a direct path to his pits for gas?but instead took a shortcut. Yes, that is snow on the beach.

A WEEK LATE AND A DOLLAR SHORT, BUT YOU CAN WATCH THE OAKLAND SUPERCROSS HERE IF YOU WANT TO
Although most of the country got to see last week’s Oakland Supercross on CBS without a hitch, there were giant population centers that couldn’t find it, got an abbreviated version or threw a brick through their TV looking for the CBS coverage. Well, here it is. If you have time to burn (and you must or you wouldn’t be here)?sit back and enjoy it.

2012 AMA 250/450 NATIONALS: MONSTER IS IN, MONSTER IS OUT, ROCKSTAR IS IN, ROCKSTAR IS OUT, RED BULL IS IN…WHAT NEXT? OVALTINE

The past.                                                              Could this be the furure?

Obviously energy drinks are interchangeable because MX Sports announced that Rockstar (and their rumored $2 million sponsorship package) is gone from the AMA Nationals and will be replaced by Red Bull as Red Bull becomes the third “Official Energy Drink of Pro Motocross” in the past five years…at least for Budds Creek, Red Bud and Unadilla. Monster used to be the AMA National sponsor, but they got ousted by Rockstar and now Rockstar is gone and Red Bull is in. Where is Mr. Pibb when you need him?

MXA PRODUCT NEWS: PRO CIRCUIT KX250F/KX450F CARBON FIBER CHAIN GUIDE

Pro Circuit’s Carbon Fiber chain guide extends farther towards the rear wheel than an stock KX-F chain guide bracket. This allows the chain to feed directly from the chain guide to the sprocket, providing a precise alignment. The $299.95 Pro Circuit Carbon Fiber chain guide also comes with a high-density polyethylene chain guide block Insert to provide a durable, long wearing, and low-friction surface for the chain to ride. The insert fits tightly within the Bracket, reducing the clearance between the chain, guide block, and sprocket. The replaceable insert also wraps around the front of the bracket to provide wear protection For additional information on this and other Pro Circuit products, please visit www.procircuit.com.

SCOTLAND TO FACE A CIVIL WAR

At the start of 2012, the Scottish motocross was split into two sanctioning bodies?the ACU and the SMXF. The SMXF (Scottish Motocross Federation) was a breakway group and reportedly got the support of many Scottish ACU supporters and six Scottish motocross clubs. According to the SMXF, the Scottish National Championship schedule will not change with the change in sanctioning bodies.

Now, the ACU has fought back by naming former GP rider Stuart Flockhart to head up the Scottish arm of the British ACU organization (as motocross consultant). The SACU contacted all of their remaining affiliated clubs and have scheduled a competing Scottish National Motocross Championship to compete against the previously announced SMXF series. Flockhart is promising to “improve the Scottish motocross scene.”

2012 KAWASAKI MOTOCROSS CONTINGENCY ANNOUNCED

For the 2012 racing season, Kawasaki Team Green continues to offer the industries quickest and easiest rewards program. Not only do you get trackside support and technical assistance for riding KX Models, Kawasaki continues to offer competitive payouts at selected races throughout the year. With three support trucks, knowledgeable technicians, and contingency payouts at events across the country, that’s clear definition of proof all around you.

HOW THE 2012 CONTINGENCY PROGRAM WORKS

Step 1: Buy a 2011 or 2012Kawasaki. Purchase a new or used 2011 or newer U.S. KX model Kawasaki from a U.S. dealer or a private party. Green must remain the dominant color and Kawasaki logos must be visible on the machine. Canadian models are not eligible for contingency.

Step 2: Register for the program online beginning prior to your first race. You will receive an automated email response once your registration has been approved. If you are currently registered in the program, you must update your account every year prior to your first race or any time there may be changes to your account.

Step 3: Race in a Contingency paying event. A list of paying race series, qualified classes, and payouts are posted on our website. Schedules are subject to change.

Step 4: Receive your Kawasaki Contingency Rewards Mastercard within 7-10 business days once your registration has been approved. Automatic payments will be deposited directly to your Kawasaki MasterCard once Kawasaki receives and approves the “official” race results from the promoter. The Kawasaki Contingency card may be redeemed at any Kawasaki dealer, and at more than 32 million retailers worldwide, giving you the freedom to choose how, where, and when you wish to spend your earnings. This is a debit car, not a credit card.

Step 5: Go to www.kawasaki.com/Racing_Contingency/MotoXDetails.aspx for more info.

TROY LEE TEAM TO AUCTION OFF PINK GEAR FOR SUSAN G. KOMAN BREAST CANCER CHARITY

Troy Lee Designs / Lucas Oil / Honda will show its support for Breast Cancer Awareness at this weekend’s Monster Energy AMA Supercross at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, CA, by wearing custom pink TLD gear and helmets, as well as donning custom pink graphics on its race bikes.

Troy admittedly stated, “Just like a lot of people, the Troy Lee Designs family has been affected by breast cancer. We are committed to providing assistance in any way that we can, so we’ve designed these very special custom helmets and gear to be auctioned off for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day event in 2012. We will also have custom bikes for the night’s racing which hopefully will bring additional awareness to the movement – finding a cure for breast cancer.”

The auction will include one each (autographed) helmet and gear set worn by Travis Baker and Cole Seely at this Saturday night’s Supercross race in Anaheim. Proceeds from the auction will be used to sponsor Team Shasta in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day event in San Diego. For more info go to www.troyleedesigns.com

MXA AIR FORCE! DOUG JARDINE FLIES THE “MOTOCROSS ACTION” COLORS ON THE AIR SHOW CIRCUIT

Check out those ailerons.

Just like a factory rider who switches teams during the off-season, air show pilot Doug Jardine switched from his trusty Russian Sukhoi aerobatic plane to the new Sbach 342 Thunderbolt this year. If you look close you can see the “Motocross Action” logos on the wings. We don’t have any new video of Doug in the Sbach, but here he in his Sukhoi?you could call this “getting big air.”

JGR CATCHES ON FIRE?WITH STEWART & THEIR BUILDING

Charlotte, North Carolina, TV stations dispatched helicopters to cover a fire at Joe Gibbs Racing in Huntersville, North Carolina, on Tuesday afternoon. Ten employees were treated on scene for smoke inhalation?none serious. The fire was started in a metal shavings bin (from the CNC machines) when one of the filters caught fire. This is the second fire at JGR in a year. In February 2011 one of the engine rooms caught fire. It should be noted that Joe Gibbs Racing had three separate buildings in Hunterville and this fire did not involve the motocross race shop.

SUPERCROSS TRACK DESIGNERS TAKE NOTE! NEW TRACK IDEA READY TO ATLANTA

The four-loop turn (actually 3-1/2 but who’s counting).

When Dirt Bike‘s Ron Lawson built the course for the Six Hours of Glen Helen he designed this four-loop corner (which tightened up each time around before going up and over the bridge). It was a great obstacle, but Lawson forgot to take into account the effect on the rider’s inner ears. It wasn’t long before a bunch of dizzy riders were missing the bridge or stalling out on the way up the steps. Since that day, Lawson has cut the number of loop-de-loops down to two.

IF YOU MISSED IT! HONDA’S SUPERBOWL TV AD PARODIES “FERRIS BUELLER’S DAY OFF”
This is the long version that you didn’t see this Sunday?okay, we admit, it is a Honda car ad not a motorcycle ad.

AND DON’T FORGET SUZUKI’S 2012 SUPERBOWL AD
Who even knew that Suzuki made cars? Toyota has 1450 U.S. dealerships compared to a reported 300 Suzuki dealership (they only have 5 dealers in the L.A. area compared to 40 for Toyota). Suzuki is trying to fight back with a Superbowl ad.
