X GAMES AUSTIN: TOM PAGES MAKES QUARTER-PIPE HISTORY
France’s FMX legend Tom Pagès won gold on Sunday in X Games first ever Moto X QuarterPipe. Pagès won by throwing down his bike flip on his second run, a trick he became the first to land in competition at Red Bull X-Fighters in Madrid in 2014. Tom headed up an all-Alpinestars podium with Levi Sherwood and Josh Sheehan filling out the steps for silver and bronze.

LACR’S JUNE SCHEDULE
2016 KTM NEW MODEL INTRODUCTION
There were shiny new 2016 KTM’s as far as the eye could see in Crawfordsville, Indiana, last week for the 2016 KTM new model introduction. KTM brought eight newly redesigned models, ranging from the all new 125 and 150 two-strokes to the 250F to 450F in both SX and XC models. The track had some huge jumps (which you can check out from watching the videos below) with a scenic view along with great weather for the two days we were there.
How were the bikes, you ask? We can’t let the cat out of the bag until we test the bikes and print the tests in MXA, but we will answer a few questions for you.
Q: IS THE 2016 KTM 125SX TWO-STROKE BETTER THAN BEFORE? It is improved from the ground up. The suspension is better, the engine is more powerful and the power ramps up smoother for an easier to ride powerband. Plus, the chassis is light and nimble.
The 2015 KTM 450SXF is faster than it seems. The power does not have a hard or abrupt hit, rather it is a smooth, easy-to-ride powerband. It’s not a coincidence that it just happens to be the kind of engine that Ryan Dungey prefers.
Q: ARE THERE ANY DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE 2015-1/2 KTM 450SXF FACTORY EDITION AND THE 2016 KTM 450SXF? Yes, but they are all quite minor. However, the improvements can be noticed when riding, especially the suspension–which is softer than before. The map curves have been changed, the gas tank is slightly lower, the brake rotors are of a different design, the frame is black instead of orange, and there are a few other small changes.
Q: WHAT DOES THE 2016 KTM 350SXF FEEL LIKE COMPARED TO ITS PREDECESSOR? Other than the new KTM 125’s, the new 350SXF was the most enjoyable bike to ride. Although it is only a few pounds lighter than the KTM 450SXF, it feels as light as the KTM 250SXF. The power is linear and revs to the moon. It is definitely is not as powerful as the 450, but it has loads more power than the 250SXF. It is a great bike for just about any rider.
