It is clearly him in the present with new gear, his 360fly helmet cam (which just came out this year) and a new model YZ450F. I fyou think the rider looks too skinny to be Cad, remember, this a wide-anagle lens and his head isn’t really hat big either.

WE RIDE THE 2016 KAWASAKI KX450F AT HIGHPOINT RACEWAY

ruiz1508041721_webThe all-new 2016 Kawasaki KX450F.

Just in the last few years the Kawasaki KX450F has gone from 1st to 4th in our 450F shootout. Not because the bike has been getting worse, the other bikes have just been getting better. For 2016 Kawasaki finally overhauled a bike that was growing long in the tooth. The Kawasaki gang sent part of the MXA crew to Pennsylvania to throw a leg over the new breed KXF.

ruiz1508055788_webPrecision power of the new KX450F power plant is powerful but easy to ride.

What did we think of the new KX450F? We think is has been cardio fasting in the mornings. The new design is much slimmer and lighter than in the past. The slimmer bike allowed a better contact patch for the rider giving him better control with his lower body. The lighter feel could be felt on every area of the track.

The engine is not as explosive off the bottom, but it transitions to the mid-range smoother, making the bike easier to ride. The previous KX450F has a predominately rear steering bike.  This made it difficult to place the front wheel where we wanted. Our testers felt the 2016 model had an improved connection with the front wheel improving the accuracy into turns and ruts.

Remember, this was just our first take on the bike in foreign conditions. We have many more hours to put on the  green monster that went on a diet before we state any facts. Look for a full test in the future issue of Motocross Action Magazine.

A SMALL TASTE INTO MXA’S FUTURE

aDSC_4003Isn’t she beautiful? Service Honda built us a Honda AF500. In other words, it is a combination of an old school CR500 engine mated with a 2015 CRF450 chassis. We can’t wait to get out hands on it.

DREAM JOBS: HEATH COFRAN
ALPINESTARS TECHNICAL MEDIA SERVICES
HeathCofran2915

STARTING POINT: “I got started in the motorsports industry with my connection though our motorcycle club BA-MOTO. In doing so, I met up with Brian from So-Cal Supermoto who put me in touch with Jamie Robinson from MOTOGEO. I worked with Jamie for a little over a year when an opportunity came up to work for Alpinstars through him.

THE JOB: “I currently work in the communications department with a focus on the technical apparel and merchandise. I work closely with editors and test riders to make sure they have the most up to date and newest protective gear to wear on shoots, launches and test rides. I also work with some TV shows, movies and stunt shows that use and need protective gear. Because our line is so vast and extensive, I get the opportunity to work within the cycling, auto and motorcycle world. My favorite part of the job is always being surrounded by motorcycles”
