The last time Suzuki made a two-stroke was in 2009. Since then we have begged all the major manufacturers to bring them back. Pictured is a mockup of what  a 2015 RM250 would look like.

THOUGHTS: TREY CANARD ON ATLANTA II

_AN22633
TREY:
“Obviously, I’m disappointed with the night, but I can’t really be too disappointed with a podium. I got a better start than last week, which is an improvement, so I feel good about that. The track was really hard to pass on, so I had to work really hard to get around some guys early. I got into second and felt like I had something for Dungey, but I think I rode a little too hard and started to make some mistakes that cost me time. Then with three laps to go, I made another big mistake, went off the track and Tomac got by me. I’m down 30 points now, which is a bummer, but I’m not giving up. There’s a lot of racing left to do, and I’m going to fight to the end.”

Don’t you think he should be wearing more a little more protection than just flip flops?

Is that this optical illusion? Are their handlebars touching the ground? Real? Of course not, unless they cloned James Stewart, but not with three offroad riders. No offense offroad aficionados. Well, maybe the guy on the left.

Mike Gosselaar aka “Goose” is Chad Reed’s go-to guy. Mike is the most successful mechanic in motocross history with more race wins and championships to his credit than anyone in the industry. He has worked with greats such as Ricky Carmichael, Steve Lamson, Ezra Lusk and Ryan Dungey. Chad was reunited with Goose in 2012 having won the 2009 Pro Motocross Championship together on Suzuki. Chad then poached Goose away from Ryan Dungey when he made the move to KTM.

Mike “Goose” Gosselaar credentials:

  • 1994-2004 Team Honda Mechanic
  • 1995-1996 125 MX Champion, Steve Lamson’s mechanic
  • 1998-2001 Worked with Ezra Lusk
  • 2003 Mechanic for Ricky Carmichael winning SX and MX championship
  • 2004 Ricky Carmichael MX champion

  • 2006 Ricky Carmichael SX and MX champion
  • 2009 Chad Reed mechanic MX champion
  • 2010 Ryan Dungey mechanic SX and MX champion

DREAM JOBS: ROB FOX DUNLOP AMATEUR MOTOCROSS SUPPORT MANAGER

DSC_7947

STARTING POINT: My dad got me started riding when I was young and I quickly fell in love with the sport. I started working at his friend’s dealership cleaning the floor and bikes. I quickly progressed to the parts department, service manager at various shops where I learned a lot about the industry. Without my dad I wouldn’t be where I am today. Motocross has turned into more of a lifestyle than a sport for me.

THE JOB: I handle all the off-road sponsorship requests, manage the needs of our sponsored amateur riders, and help represent our off-road customers with marketing, sales and planning in our motorcycle business. The best part of my job is being able to travel to all the major amateur motocross events and interacting with the top riders in the country on a personal level. As an avid rider myself, I enjoy being at the track as much as possible.

MXA FUN FACT

VillopotoSat_MXGP_1_QAT_2015-sm

Ryan Villopoto has won five AMA Outdoor National Championships. With each Championship season we took Ryan’s worst race from each season and averaged it out.

  • 2006 250 class Champion: Worst finish 12th
  • 2007 250 class Champion: Worst finish 7th
  • 2008 250 class Champion: Worst finish 20th
  • 2011 450 class Champion: Worst finish 3rd
  • 2013 450 class Champion: Worst finish 5th

Which leaves Ryan with the average worst finish of a 9th – 9.4 to be exact.

Why did we go through the trouble to give you the numbers for races Ryan has nightmares about? Because Ryan finished 7th last week at the first round of the MXGP’s in Qatar. Many people have already turned their backs on RV. You can’t forget, this guy is an experience champion. He will learn the ropes and will not go down without a fight.

MXA FITNESS TIP OF THE WEEK: LOOSEN UP YOUR TOP END

stretch-meme

There has never been much focus on keeping your top end (upper body) nimble  for riding. Many training programs incorporate active recovery to flush out lactic acid, but this is mainly done through cycling. Cycling does not incorporate the upper extremities. This will leave stagnate lactic acid in the arms which create a burning sensation along with more armpump. To loosen up the arms after riding try using an elliptical or rower instead of a bicycle. The intensity should be fairly  easy for a duration of at least 20 minutes to flush the lactic acid. Warning, if you do these activities with a hard intensity you will just create more lactic acid creating more arm pump. Also, after your workout stretch the upper body, included the forearms and hands. The muscles in the arms and hands become very tight after a moto session. If you have an issue with armpump take this tip seriously dedicate the time necessary and the results will follow.
