RAPID RESULTS: HANGTOWN IS ALL 450 KTM & ALL 250 YAMAHA

Hangtown5313This is what Glen Helen looked like and this is what Hangtown looked like—Ryan Dungey (5) and Ken Roczen (94) are on top of their games.

News Capsule: As a rule of thumb, the first National of the year is not a precursor of the season to follow. What with nerves, setup errors and the fact that everyone has ring rust after 17 weeks of jump, jump, jump in the cool night air, Glen Helen was not considered a good test of what was to be. Surprise! In the 450 class, the KTM duo of Roczen and Dungey repeated what they did at Glen Helen at Hangtown, but in reverse order. Trey Canard was on the podium again. James Stewart was a little better and his bike looked a lot better. Justin Barcia was more aggressive, but about the same (except his chain stayed on). Weston Peick beat the Kawasaki team—even though both Metcalfe and Weimer got to lead.

In the 250 class it was all Yamaha all the time. The all-blue podium saw a repeat for new kids on the block. Jeremy Martin and Cooper Webb duplicated their surprises at Glen Helen—which means they will no longer be considered surprises, while Christophe Pourcel stood on the third step. The good news for Yamaha is that Christophe still looks happy to be racing. Justin Hill rebounded from his disastrous day at Glen Helen, while TLD’s Jessy Nelson looked very good again. It was a Good/Bad day for Justin Bogle and Jason Anderson. And a terrible day for Blake Baggett and Cole Seely.
