ROGER DECOSTER & KIMI RAIKONNEN MAKE DEAL FOR FERRIS
Dean Ferris, 23, who never really got started in America before breaking his arm, is being loaned out to Kimi Raikonnen’s IceOne Husqvarna team as a fill-in rider. Ferris raced for Raikonnen’s team a couple years ago, so they have a relationship. Starting at the Swedish GP next weekend, Ferris will fill-in for the injured Tyla Rattray on his Husky FC350. It may sound strange for one brand to lend a rider to another brand, but since KTM owns Husqvarna—it’s not the same as Yamaha lending a rider to Honda.
Ferris made it through the first six rounds of the AMA 250 West Supecross before getting hurt practicing. He scored 14th, 7th, 11th, 10th, 11th and 10th place finishes and was inside the top ten when he got hurt. Ferris was brought to the USA for his outdoor skills—which he has not shown yet because of injury.
IceOne’s original team of Todd Waters and Tyla Rattray are both on the sidelines with injuries and currently Brit Nathan Watson is filling in for Waters. No word on whether, Ferris will return to the American KTM team in 2015, but three of his four GP dates conflict with the Red Bud, Budds Creek and Millville AMA Nationals. Dean could return to KTM for Unadilla, Indiana and Miller Motorsports Park. Ferris’ GP deal does not included the final two GP’s (Brazil and Mexico) because Rattray should be back by then.
