MXA’S WEEKEND NEWS ROUND-UP: V-TWIN SMOKER, ENDUROCROSS & PASHA IS BACK WITH ANOTHER BUNDLE OF MONEY

MXA TEST RIDER PHOTOS OF THE WEEK: JOSH MOSIMAN NOW KNOWS WHAT REAL HORSEPOWER FEELS LIKE

“Where’s the berm?” Josh looks a little tentative and he was not reassured when he was told that its just like riding a 2000-pound dirt bike.

Ashley Mosiman has been going to motocross races with her father and her brother her whole life, so it was only natural that she would marry a motocross racer. Ashley came to watch hubby Josh Mosiman race the World Two-Stroke Championship two week’s ago, so it was only right that he attend one of her riding stable’s horse events this past weekend. The joke was on him as Ashley dressed up in Josh’s MXA gear and handed Josh true-to-life horse riding gear and entered him in the Family class.

You gotta love the number plates on Didero.

Josh said, “It was fun! My wife signed me up for the ‘family class’ at her barn’s fun show. Ashley taught me how to ride after work for three nights this week and I “posted the trot” on Ashley’s horse Didero as she borrowed a friend’s horse and rode next to me for the competition. We got third out of four in the class, but we won best “team costume.” It was a blast and I’m happy to do fun stuff like this with her and stoked that she got me out of my comfort zone. Now I can say, ‘I can ride a horse.’”

WHAT’S INSIDE THE NOVEMBER 2020 ISSUE OF MXA?

The November 2020 issue of MXA has full tests on the 2021 Husqvarna FC450, 2021 Kawasaki KX450 and 2021 Yamaha YZ450F.

Plus, a tech story on how to build the perfect Honda CRF450, a giant interview with Husqvarna’s Andy Jefferson and a retro test on Justin Barcia’s 2012 Geico Honda CRF250. Plus, Jody’s surfing saga, KTM’s best week ever and the Bridgestone SR175 that was tearing up the scrambles, dirt track, drag racing and road races tracks in 1967. It didn’t make a dent in motocross though, because there was no motocross in 1967.

The first four rounds of the 2020 AMA EnduroCross Championship Series will be held at Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino California on Friday, October 23rd (Round One), Saturday, October 24th (Round Two), Thursday, October 29th (Round Three) and Friday, October 30th (Round Four). The final two AMA EnduroCross races Championship races will still take place in Nampa, Idaho, at the Ford Idaho Center on Friday, Nov. 6 and Saturday, Nov. 7.

The races will be held on a custom-built Endurocross track inside Glen Helen’s Stadiumcross track. Glen Helen is famous as an AMA National track, FIM Grand Prix track, Lucas Oil Off-Road Truck Championship venue, and home to the World Vet Motocross Championship and Red Bull Day in the Dirt events. Spectators will be allowed at all six events in the 2020 AMA EnduroCross series (see below for more details). The 2020 Endurocross Racing Series will be available for nationwide viewing either via television broadcast or live webcast subscription program. They are in the final stages of confirming these details and will make that information available as soon as we are able.

The Pro (Super EnduroX) class will use a three-moto format similar to the FIM SuperEnduro World Championship with a double row start and 16 riders. The first moto will be lined up based on afternoon hot-lap results. The riders will be inverted from the race one results for the second of the three motos. The final moto will be lined up based on the race two results so the top riders will race three times per event and at least one of those races will require a second-row starting position. “SCUBA STEVE” GETS A BIG PROMOTION: HE DESERVES IT & HUSKY WILL BE BETTER FOR IT

Stephen Westfall, Scuba to his friends, is the congratulated on being name the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing Team manager by Roger DeCoster.

Long-time race team technician and Husky current crew chief Stephen Westfall has officially been named Team Manager of the Husqvarna SX/MX squad. Westfall, also known as “Scuba,” began his time with the team in 2008 and spent six years as a highly-respected technician working with many of the sport’s top riders. He was promoted to Crew Chief in 2014, where he oversees all technical and logistical aspects of the team’s operations in addition to serving as an instrumental force in the team’s overall chemistry. Steve said, “I’m very excited and grateful for this opportunity. I’m looking forward to moving into the role of officially leading the team and excited to continue working with the great group of crew members and riders that I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside for many years now. It would be a great way to finish the 2020 race season with Zach Osborne on top.”

Roger De Coster who heads the KTM, Husky and GasGas race programs in North America said, “We are really pleased to offer ‘Scuba’ the opportunity to move into a management role with the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing Team. He has been an integral part of the team’s evolution over the years – from their early days at Suzuki, to aligning with KTM in 2014 before transitioning to Husqvarna in 2016 to become the official factory effort in the USA. Obviously 2020 has been a testing year for everyone and Scuba has done a tremendous job navigating the circumstances while demonstrating the leadership skills needed to bring the factory team into championship contention this season.”

PASHA IS BACK WITH MORE 125 PRO CLASSES: THIS TIME AT THE WORLD VET MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP—$4000 ON THE LINE

Hollywood actor Pasha Afshar is putting his money into two special 125 two-stroke races at the 2020 World Vet Championship on November 7-8.

The plan is for the two Pasha 125 classes to be “Over-30 125 Pro” and “Over-50 125 Pro.” It is open to any rider who is from 30 to 49 years of age for the Over-30 125 Pro class and any rider over the age of 50 in the Over-50 125 Pro classes. There are no skill divisions and displacements of up to 150cc are legal. The current plan is to run the “Pasha Over-30 125 Pro” class on Saturday and the “Pasha Over-50 125 Pro” class on Sunday.

Pasha as the bad guy in the “Bennett’s War” motocross movie.

These will be the only two-strokes classes at the 2020 World Vet Motocross Championship and although they pay a $2000 purse in each class they are really just fun races for riders who love to race their 125s. First place pays $1000, second place $600 and third place $400. For more info or to sign-up go to www.glenhelen.com.

HONDA WILL PULL OUT OF FORMULA ONE AFTER NEXT SEASON…OH NO, NOT AGAIN!

Honda is currently the engine supplier to Red Bull Racing and Alpha Tauri teamswith Max Verstappen and Kimi Raikkonen respectively.

Honda has announced that will it end its participation in the Formula One World Driving Championship at the end of the 2021 season. Honda’s involvement in Formula One began in 1964 season, and in 1965 they achieved their first victory at the Mexican Grand Prix. After further success with John Surtees, Honda withdrew at the end of the 1968 season.

Honda returned in 1983 as an engine supplier, which started a very successful period for Honda. After winning races in 1984 and 1985, Honda won the Constructors’ Championship every year between 1986 and 1991 with Williams and McLaren, but quit again in 1992.

Honda returned to F1 again in 2000, providing engines for British American Racing (BAR). BAR-Honda finished second in the 2004 Constructor’s Championship in 2004, and at the end of 2005 season Honda bought out the BAR team, which became the Honda team for 2006. Honda announced at the end of the 2008 season that they would be exiting Formula One again.

Honda returned to F1 in 2015 to supply McLaren with power units. McLaren and Honda split in 2018. Toro Rosso however, agreed to use Honda engines for the 2018 season. Following a fairly successful season with Toro Rosso, Red Bull Racing agreed to also take on Honda engines for the 2019 season. In the 2020 season Honda is the engine supplier to Red Bull Racing and Scuderia AlphaTauri. If they pull out as announced at the end of the 2021 season that will be the fifth time that they have quit Formula One.

CLEMENT DESALLE TO HANG UP THE BOOTS AT 31

Former World number two Clement Desalle will retire at the end of the season. .

Kawasaki factory rider Clement Desalle says, “After 15 seasons of GP, 11 as factory rider, I’ll stop racing Grand Prix motocross at the end of this year. I’m thankful for what it brought to me. I’m really happy I could be a professional motocross rider in the World Championship on a good level (a dream when I was little boy).

“This decision comes now because of a package of reasons, but I respect the rules I gave myself a long time ago. And to be honest it’s becoming more and more difficult to enjoy the riding and life in GP for me. The sure thing is that I love riding a motocross bike and  I’ll continue to ride forever. I could not achieve my dream to be the World Champion but It’s like that. Big thanks to everyone who supported me.”

THOMAS COVINGTON RETIRES AT 24

Thomas Covington_2019 Arlington Supercross-51“For me and at this point in my life, it’s just not worth the risk.

Thomas Covington said in his official retirement announcement that, “With the way that everything was going, I just wasn’t really willing to take the risks that I used to take. I don’t know if it has to do with some crashes I had before the Supercross season last year. I hit my head a couple of times and knocked myself out. I just wasn’t really in a position to do that anymore and I just felt like someone else should have this spot. There aren’t that many spots in the MXGP class, especially factory-supported spots, and I just feel like it’s time for me to move on to something new and start a new chapter.”

Thomas Covington won four 250 GPs , including the Mexican GP in 2015 and 2017. Thomas was also on Team USA at the 2017 Motocross of Nations.

“For me and at this point in my life, it’s just not worth the risk for me. Luckily, I’ve been able to meet a lot of influential people and all kinds of different people around the world and in the industry. There have been quite a few opportunities that have come up over the last year or so but I’ve obviously never had any time to chase any of them and that’s another reason why this decision came up. I felt like I could pursue other things and have a life after motocross. I figured I could get a head start on some of this stuff while I’m still young and still make a living without risking my life. Even so, it was such a hard thing to do to make this decision.”
