KEN ROCZEN JOINS THE COIL SPRING CORPS
Just call him “Koil-Over Kenny.”
The season is over, but Ken Roczen made one final change before the bell rang for the final round—he dumped his Showa TAC Air forks for the old-school Showa spring forks. They are still works forks—just not works air forks. Fork swapping has become common place as of late—sometimes from air to spring and sometimes from Showa to Kayaba. As for the interview Ken’s dad gave to a German magazine bad mouthing RCH Suzuki, there is nothing shocking about it. Drama has been added to an obvious situation. We have all known that Ken is unhappy there, but is he as unhappy as his dad? Do you want your dad slamming your boss? Ken’s a big boy. He signed a multi-million dollar contract to race for RCH. If he has issues, he should be more assertive.
2015 LAKE ELSINORE GRAND PRIX CANCELED
The Lake Elsinore Grand Prix is a 7.2 mile offroad race which starts and finishes at a local baseball. The 46-year-old race and was made famous in Bruce Brown’s “On Any Sunday” film. The course wraps around the city of Lake Elsinore over two days of racing with motorcycles, quads, side-by-sides and UTV’s. With the state of California reaching historical drought conditions, the Governor of California has declared a “State of Emergency” that does not allow for the purchase of water through the Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District. Because of mandatory statewide water restrictions, EVMWD must abide by the governor’s executive order and cannot supply the amount of water needed to build and maintain the race track. If the El Nino weather pattern delivers rain this winter, the race will be rescheduled for November of 2016.
MILLER MOTORSPORTS PARK’S FUTURE: SANS THE NATIONAL
Perhaps they will make Volvo’s there.
After the death of multi-millionaire Larry H. Miller in 2009, the race track named after him, was thrown into limbo. His family did not want to renew the lease on the 500-acre race track. Now it looks like Geely Holding Group, a Chinese automobile company that also owns Volvo, will take it over. Tooele County commissioners announced at a Tuesday night meeting that the auto racetrack has been sold to the Chinese-based group for $20 million. Miller Motorsports Park will serve as a campus for drivers, mechanics and track personnel who work for Geely — or aspire to work in China’s emerging automotive racing industry. But, the AMA National is unlikely to ever return there.

MXA PHOTO OF THE WEEK: EJECTED & REJECTED
Former AMA 250 National Pro Jon Ortner takes one big bounce before tumbling down the bank. Jon’s bike was smart enough to stay on the Glen Helen track. Rich Stuelke shot the photo.
MEMORIES OF THE WAY WE WERE
This was the starting line at the World Four-Stroke Championships at Carlsbad 30 years ago. That is Johnny O’Mara on the far right on a Honda. A close look at the line reveals one Honda, One Husqvarna and one Yamaha—the rest of the field is mounted on blue-framed ATK 604s. Even O’Mara’s bike was a one-off ATK copy.
MXA AD OF THE WEEK: THE HOUSE OF HUSKY
Riders new to the sport forget that before Pro Circuit was a powerhouse Honda and Kawasaki team, they had one of the best Husqvarna teams in the 1980s. Look at the list of riders in this Pro Circuit ad.
