ASTERISK “DIRECT” OFFERS AFFORDABLE KNEE PROTECTION

ultra-cellAsterisk Ultra Cell knee braces are available in red, white or black.

When Asterisk knee braces were introduced in 2002, they offered state-of-the-art, rigid and fully adjustable off-the-shelf knee brace for $549 a pair. As the knee brace marketed heated up and more companies entered the market, the prices climbed to between $600 to $850 a pair. Asterisk wants to do something about the cost of knee protection, so, as of today, the Asterisk Cell knee protection line is only available directly through Asterisk. The retail prices will be as follows:

Ultra Cell – $499.99 (pair)
Cyto Cell – $389.99 (pair)
Germ youth brace – $199.00 (pair)

ITALY NAMES THEIR WEAKEST MXDN TEAM EVER

MXDNernee

When Italy named it’s 2015 Motocross des Nations team, everybody in the sport just stood back in silence. No Cairoli. No Phillipaerts. No Guarneri. No Lupino. Instead the Italian team will be Samuele Bernardini (24th in 250 GP points), Michele Cervellin (11th in EMX 250 points) and Ivo Monticelli (19th in 250 GP points). However, every team has issues. AMA Champion Ryan Dungey refused to race the MXDN this year. Kevin Strijbos, Clement Desalle and Ken DeDycker are all injured for Belgium. Ken Roczen says he won’t race on the German team because he wants to heal up from minor surgery on August 31. Luckily for Germany, Max Nagl has recovered from his broken ankle and is back racing. Arnaud Tonus is signed up for the Swiss team, but hasn’t raced much in 2015 because of a lingering illness (they already named an alternate to take his place just in case). It’s hard to imagine a Motocross des Nations without Cairoli, Dungey, Desalle, Stribos or Roczen, but get used to it. Here are the 14 teams named so far.

MXA PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT: SYSTEMS’ POWER LIFT ELECTRIC BIKE STAND

POWERLIFT3We don’t know if you’re tired of picking 240-pound bikes up to put them on their stands after a long moto, but we are. Enter the Power Lift by Systems. Powered by an 18-volt rechargeable battery it lifts your bike up when you press the button on the side of the stand with your foot.

POWERLIFT1The Power Lift stand is low enough that your bike doesn’t have to be lifted to get on the stand and elevates it high enough to get both wheels off the ground. How much? $349.95. MXA is testing it right now, but you can order one by calling N-Style at (800) 831-9043.

JUSTIN BARCIA SIGNS ON DOTTED LINE THROUGH 2018 AT JGR

Barcia side portraitJustin.

Press release: JGRMX is proud to announce that an agreement has been signed extending Justin Barcia’s tenure with the team through the 2018 racing season. JGRMX Extends Partnership with Justin Barcia Through 2018 Barcia and the team have been working extremely well together with six consecutive podium finishes and two wins during the second half of the 2015 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship Series.  In addition, Barcia was selected as one of three riders to represent the U.S.A. at the 2015 Motocross des Nations in Ernee, France on Sept. 26 and 27.  “We feel like Justin is a great addition to our racing family, and even though he was under contract through 2016 we wanted to extend his agreement with us long-term,” said Coy Gibbs, the team owner. “I really like the guys on the team and the overall atmosphere here, now I don’t have to think about anything but riding and training for a long time. We all get along great and I’m pumped,” said Barcia.

MEMORIES OF THE WAY WE WERE

MXDN80OMARAGLOVERWJERJThere was a time when American National Champions wanted to be named to the Motocross des Nations team. Take this 1984 team photo of Johnny O’Mara, Jeff Ward, Broc Glover, Rick Johnson and Roger DeCoster picking up the gaudy plated cup for winning both the Trophee des Nations and Motocross des Nations on consecutive weekends.

MXA AD OF THE WEEK: THE BUG FLEA

thefleaRiders from the old days are often asked what minicycle they started racing on, but they can’t answer that because the only minicycles around in the old days were bikes like the Bug Flea. No suspension, three-horsepower engine, rubber-covered footpegs and a retail price of $149, but if you wanted to put your own Briggs & Stratton in it you could buy the chassis for $99.

GLEN HELEN USGP TRIVIA

ghCONCRETEgateGlen Helen’s concrete starting line has been getting a workout this year. First, the concrete was removed for the AMA National in May and, now for the September 20 USGP, the starting gate will be moved forward 40 feet to make room for the two-story MXGP Skybox. Once it is moved forward, it will not be moved back to its old locations, which was very cramped behind the gate.
