WESTON PEICK’S JGR MEDICAL UPDATE

Peick after crash in practice Brown Dog Wilson photoWeston Peick gets a ride off the Phoenix track before heading to the hospital.

JGR press release: Weston Peick suffered a hard crash during practice at last week’s race in Phoenix, Ariz. He was transported to a nearby hospital where it was discovered that he had a lacerated kidney and a broken wrist. Peick underwent successful surgery Sunday night on his wrist, the kidney should heal on its own. Although the recovery time is difficult to accurately predict at this time, he is expected to need several weeks of healing time before he can begin preparing to return to riding, and then racing. His condition will be updated as more information becomes known. Peick was riding exceptionally well before the crash, and was coming off a season-best fifth place the week prior.

“Weston was riding really well with lots of confidence on the RM-Z450, I am really bummed for him but we look forward to a full recovery and seeing him back racing once he is healthy and ready,” said team manager Jeremy Albrecht.

Since Justin Barcia, who has been recovery from a wrist injury is expected to return to racing in the next couple of weeks the team will not look to replace Peick with a fill-in rider at this time. Jake Weimer, who has been substituting for Barcia will race his RM-Z450 at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum this Saturday, Feb. 4, with Phillip Nicoletti contesting the 250SX class aboard his RM-Z250.

HONDA’S GRAND PRIX TEAM READY FOR THE MXGP SEASON TO START

GIBSON MOUTECH SPEEDY MOUSSE TUBE REPLACEMENT

Gibson1_2_gGibson Tyres have developed a new-style of foam mousse for offroad bikes, although not for motocross bikes yet. The Gibson Moutech Speedy Mousse is basically a hollow mouse tube that has an air chamber sealed into the design (with a special coating to lessen air leakage). Thus, no tube.
ACCT_1_3smThe air chamber represents 4.5 psi of air in the chamber and, when mixed with the thick foam mousse and the sidewalls of the tire, comes close to mimicking a normal offroad tire’s feel. Called “ACCT”  (Air Chambers Core Technology), it will get its first workout in the European Hard Enduro circuit.

HUSQVARNA SALES INCREASE BY 43 PERCENT IN THE LAST YEAR

HuskyVITPILEN401In its first full year of production Husky sold 16,337 in 2014, it upped that to 21,513 in 2015 and for the year that just ended on December 31, 2016, they sold 30,700 motorcycles.

Press release: Enjoying highly encouraging results during the business year 2016, Husqvarna Motorcycles have come close to doubling both their production and turnover in the last two years. Reaching total global sales of 30,700 units during the 12 months to December 31, 2016, the European premium manufacturer achieved an increase of both, units sold and turnover, of 43%.  This result follows the 32% gain in bikes sales during 2015 and underlines the brand’s positive strategy of growth. Generating the largest ever turnover in the brand’s history at the end of 2015, Husqvarna’s annual, worldwide turnover increased significantly in 2016, reaching more than 200 million Euros.

2016 saw Husqvarna successfully launch the all-new 2017 line-up of FE and TE Enduro models, available from September onward. In addition, the new 701 Enduro and 701 Supermoto models with the latest class leading engine technology have been also released during the second half of the year. Importantly, Husqvarna completed their range of motocross bikes with the introduction of the 2016 TC50 and TC65 models. Together with the TC85 and an extensive line-up of full-sized 2-stroke and 4-stroke models, Husqvarna now offers a complete range of nine motocross bikes.

In 2016 Husqvarna also unveiled the serial production version of the Vitpilen 401 and the Svartpilen 401 – the brand’s first, exciting ‘Real Street’ motorcycles will be available on dealer floors in late Autumn 2017. The newly introduced models will ensure the future expansion of the Husqvarna Motorcycles brand in the street motorcycle segment.

FOREIGN RIDERS WHO MADE THE MAINS AT PHOENIX

DEAN WILSONDean Wilson was knocking on the door of the top ten at Phoenix. Marvin Musquin and Jason Anderson were in front of him and Josh Grant and Broc Tickle were behind him.

These are the top foreign riders who made the main events in Phoenix last Saturday. Chad Reed proved that he’s not headed for the World Vet Championship just yet, by finishing a strong second overall in the 450 class. MXA’S AD OF THE WEEK: A MAN APART FROM OTHERS

ATK604Back when the motocross world was still all-two-stroke all-the- time, one man fought the four-stroke fight. Horst Leitner’s ATK 604 was a smashing success. It was built in a little workshop in Laguna Beach, California, and bristled with wild ideas. Note the rearward facing rear brake pedal, countershaft disc brake and anti-chain-torque chain line. Horst wasn’t just about four-strokes, his ATK 406 two-stroke had a strong following also.
