BREAKING NEWS FOR SOCAL RACERS: GLEN HELEN CLOSED & REM MOTOCROSS CANCELED UNTIL APRIL 3

REM hopes to hold their next regularly scheduled race on April 4.

REM’s Frank Thomason posted this on REM’s Instagram page Wednesday, March 18. “These are some strange times. Things are changing every day. All of us are in uncharted territory with what is going on not only in our neighborhoods but on a world-wide scale. As such, REM was going to take the high moral ground and cancel our races at least through the rest of March. Our feelings are that while “racing is life” to many of us, it really isn’t worth the risk of spreading this virus to our families or friends. We were going to announce this afternoon after letting all of our partners know what we were doing.

“But the county stepped in and shut down Glen Helen Raceway through April 3, 2020, due to the risk of spreading Covid 19 to others. The county’s memo took the decision out of our hands. We agree with this decision and support our government in their efforts to keep as many people safe and alive as possible. While this is an inconvenience for a whole lot of people, saving lives is the greater good. Anyone who has ever had pneumonia knows all to well how serious this can be.

“Someday soon this will all be a bad memory and we will hopefully be able to get on with our lives. We don’t know when that will be, but we have penciled in April 4th as our return. But as we have seen no one knows what tomorrow will bring let alone two weeks from now. Please be safe, protect yourselves and your loved ones. REM is a family more than a race.” For more info go to www.remsatmx.com

GLEN HELEN RACEWAY TO BE CLOSED UNTIL APRIL 3

Glen Helen press release: “Due to the rapidly evolving developments involving the international Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, Glen Helen Raceway has made the necessary decision to temporarily close. The closure will take effect immediately and plan to re-open on April 3rd. The health, safety and well-being of our staff, riders, and the spectators are always our top priority. We will keep you updated about this temporary closure, including any change in the date of our re-opening, through our website and social media channels. We deeply appreciate your understanding during these unprecedented times. We ask that you please stay safe and adhere to the guidelines being issued by public health officials to protect yourself and your loved ones by limiting the spread of the Coronavirus. We look forward to seeing you all very soon.” For more information go to www.glenhelen.com

TRAILBLAZERS MOTORCYCLE CLUB BANQUET POSTPONED UNTIL NOVEMBER 7

This is the 2019 Trailblazer Hall of Fame class. The 2020 honorees will have to wait until November 7. Photo: Jim Gianatsis

The Trailblazers Board of Directors has decided that the ever-changing situation of the Coronavirus outbreak has made it inappropriate at this time to hold its annual banquet as planned on April 4th. The 76th annual event will now be held on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at the same location in Carson, California.

The directors met in an emergency session to discuss how the Coronavirus could negatively impact the upcoming banquet if it were held in less than a month as originally planned. With all 800 seats already sold out, the directors questioned the appropriateness of carrying on with its event at a time that community leaders are urging restraint in holding events with large crowds. Of great concern to the directors was the obvious health risk for attendees and others, both at the event, as well as their need to travel to get there.

Trailblazers President Don Emde, stated, “I am very happy that the Trailblazers Board of Directors considered the health and safety of our many members who will be attending the banquet and will not take any unnecessary risks at this time of a potentially historic health crisis.” He added, “we want to assure all ticket holders and sponsors that everything is in place and will remain as-is until the banquet is held on its new date.”

The Trailblazers board also noted that not moving the date risked having a last-minute cancellation imposed on them by state or local authorities, a move that would have wiped the event for 2020. Emde said that only one suitable alternate date was available at the Carson Center which made their decision at this time even easier. He added, “as the Trailblazers President, it would be unthinkable to not have a banquet this year. We have too much history to let that happen.”

THE APRIL 2020 ISSUE IS JAM-PACKED FULL OF BIKE TEST & TECH ARTICLES

If you haven’t seen the latest issue of MXA then you are missing a thrill ride of motocross facts, figures, information, racing, tech and the stuff that never makes it to your phone.

The 2020 Husqvarna TC250 two-stroke still has a carb, which makes it a hot-rod for now—fuel-injection is coming though. This test tells you more about the TC250 that you’ll find anywhere else.

See this Penton 125 Six-Days? Cool looking, isn’t it? But the story of how John Penton got KTM to make it for him is equally cool.

If you’d like to get back to the fun days of pit bike riding, you need to take a look at the YCF Bigy 190MX. It may be made in China, but we didn’t break it and, if we had, all the parts are available in the USA.

Way before Wuhan was in the news, the MXA wrecking crew went to an FIM test race for a potential Chinese MXGP in the resort town of Gudou Hot Springs—where MXA’s Dennis Stapleton took Ryan Surratt on a journey he’ll never forget.

Back in 2008, the MXA wrecking crew threw a leg over James Stewart’s “Perfect Season” Kawasaki KX450F. Journey back in time with us to learn what Bubba’s bike actually felt like. In a word—Stiff.

If you subscribe to MXA you can get the mag on your iPhone, iPad, Kindle or Android by going to the Apple Store, Amazon or Google Play or in a digital version. Even better you can subscribe to Motocross Action and get the awesome print edition delivered to your house by a uniformed employee of the U.S. Government.
