BIKES YOU’VE NEVER SEEN BEFORE: DOUBLE WISHBONE FORKS

HUsKYlinkageforkNorthern Ireland’s Harry Stitts designed and built the complete front end of this Husqvarna. Stitts races it every week in local races. He calls it “double wishbone suspension.”

MXA TEAM TESTED: USED IT, ABUSED IT, MISUSED IT & LOVED IT

MOBIUS X8 WRIST BRACE
The Mobius wrist brace is used by the biggest names in the sport, most notably Ken Roczen. It effectively limits the range of motion for riders who have suffered wrist injuries or wrist fusions, riders who have range-of-motion issues from being in a cast for months, or those who have any of a wide range of injuries that require some limit on the vertical flexion of the wrist joint.
VERDICT: Think of the Mobius X8 wrist brace as a knee brace for your wrist–with your forearm, wrist and hand functioning as your knee, knee joint and lower leg. The extension stop can be adjusted from 10 to 70 degrees of motion by turning an Allen screw. It works–we know.
DIGITS: $199.95—www.mobiusbrace.com.

ASTERISK CELL KNEE BRACE
Asterisk is now run by former AMA Pro Mike Beier, who learned the knee brace trade at CTi. When Mike took over, he kept the Asterisk knee brace features that were solid, tossed out the problematic areas and redesigned the overall configuration.
VERDICT: This is not the Asterisk brace of the past. The Asterisk Cell knee brace is now a functional knee brace that is comfortable, has a custom feel, is durable and offers superior protection. This was the first set of Asterisk braces that we ever tested that had no issues with durability. Kudos to the new owners for taking a product with potential and making it into something great.
DIGITS: $699.00 (per pair)—www.asterisk.com or (951) 268-6790.

NITROMOUSSE ELASTOMER FOAM TUBES
The NitroMousse differs from the typical offroad mousse used by desert and Baja racers in that the NitroMousse’s tube-shaped elastomer foam is charged with nitrogen instead of air. The nitrogen provides a livelier and more predictable feel than the typical mousse. Most important is that a NitroMousse can never go flat.
VERDICT: Compared to a conventional air-filled tube, the NitroMousse tubes were dead-feeling. The tires would thud through braking and square-edged bumps and transmit that force to the rider’s hands. But, they couldn’t go flat, and the tires performed just as well as with a conventional tube filled to 12 psi.
DIGITS: $124.95—www.nitromousse.comhttp://www.ezup.com or (800) 457-4233.

MXA PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT: ONE SHOT DEAL! SPECIAL RUN OF 1986 HONDA CR250 TWO-STROKE PIPES

This is a cool idea. Pro Circuit plans to built a special limited-edition run of 1986 Honda CR250 Works Pipe and 304 silencers for bike builder and vintage racers. Just like back in the day, Pro Circuit’s Works Pipe increases horsepower and torque, while the unplated, oiled metal finish gives your bike that “works look.” Completing the special throwback kit is a 304 Factory Sound Silencer that has a slightly longer body to add top-end performance while reducing noise output. The brushed aluminum silencer body and stainless steel inlet tube and end-cap make the 1986 CR250 silencer look as good as it performs. It brings back memories of Ricky Johnson in his Team Honda days.

Pro Circuit is accepting orders for the $425.00 1986 Honda CR250 kit now and fulfill them when they reach the required production number. Order now if you want to be included in this special offer. For more info go to www.procircuit.com

THE WAY WE WERE: THE WAY WE WORE

Tim Hart followed by Rich Thorwaldson. Tim Hart passed away last March and Rich Thorwaldson was laid to rest in 2004.

In the good old days, there were no full coverage motocross helmets made. Racers depended on duckbill visors and Jofa face guards to protect their faces and teeth. But Tim Hart and fellow racer Billy Payne decided that they didn’t like the lack of protection—so they switched to Bell Star full coverage road race helmets. They had to leave their goggles behind and depend on the lexan face shield for vision. The only way to have tear-offs was to use the large road race-style tear-offs that covered the front shield. Additionally, the Bell Star road race helmet did not come with a visor, so Hart had to jerryrig a duckbill visor. Finally, the Bell Moto-Star motocross helmet came out in 1976. To read more about Tim Hart or Rich Thorwaldson click on their names.
