MXA’S WEEKEND NEWS ROUND-UP: SUPERCROSS-ONLY CONTRACTS ARE MAKING A COMEBACK

• “MAVTV PLUS” WAVES THE WHITE FLAG: PUBLIC HUMILIATION & PUBLIC PRESSURE FORCES A CHANGE

Following the announcement of a new live streaming partnership between MAVTV Motorsports Network, FloSports and the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, the streaming of the Nationals will now have a new home for the remainder of the 2022 AMA National season. The new “MAVTV on FloRacing” channel will deliver all MAVTV Plus live content to viewers through FloRacing beginning with this weekend with the Red Bud National.

Current subscribers to MAVTV Plus, both monthly and yearly, will maintain their access to the service through July 26, which will showcase all the action from Red Bud (July 2), Southwick (July 9), Millville (July 16) and Washougal (July 23). But, MAVTV Plus is not taking any new subscriptions and all current MAVTV Plus subscriptions will end on July 27, from then on MAVTV Plus programming will be presented exclusively on FloRacing. Forever more, “MAVTV Plus” will be known as “MAVTV Minus” to motocross fans.

Motocross viewers who become new subscribers to FloRacing will be treated to a limited-time offer of $6.99 a month. Current FloRacing subscribers will have access beginning at Red Bud. If your MAVTV Plus subscription expires before July 27, it will not auto-renew and you will not see any future charges from MAVTV. If you’re watching on regular television, the races will still air on the normal MAVTV channel. Starting in January 2023, your monthly subscription will auto-renew at the FloSports monthly rate currently set at $29.99. For more info about FloRacing go to www.floracing.com

BREAKING NEWS! KEN ROCZEN & ELI TOMAC TO RACE 2022 FIM WORLD SUPERCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP

Eli Tomac has joined Ken Roczen for the World Supercross series. Will this start a stampede?

SX Global, the Australian company spearheading the FIM World Supercross Championship (WSX), announce on Thursday that two-time 450 Motocross Champion Ken Roczen has officially committed to compete in the three-round 2022 FIM-sanctioned World Supercross Championship, slated to begin in Cardiff, Wales. And was quickly join by Eli Tomac on the start list for round one in England.

This is a surprise, but since both Tomac and Roczen planning on racing Supercross only in 2023, maybe it is not a far stretch for the two biggest world-wide Supercross stars to cash in.

Ken wants to use the World Supercross series as prep for thr 2023 AMA Supercross series in January.
“The WSX is a unique opportunity to compete on a truly global scale, and I’m thrilled to be a part of that,” said Roczen. “I haven’t raced overseas in a very long time so I’m looking forward to bringing supercross to die-hard fans at these international events in 2022, all while competing for an FIM-sanctioned world title. I’m thrilled for what will no doubt be an unbelievable experience and a fantastic springboard for a full assault on my 2023 Supercross and Motocross championship goals.”

Eli Tomac will race the opening round of the World Supercross series. We’re guessing that serious start money changed hands.

Coming on the heels of Ken Roczen’s confirmed participation in the WSX Championship, the news of Eli Tomac’s participation as a wildcard entry elevates the first championship round even further with the two archrivals battling it out. Tomac fills one of the four wildcard spots at the WSX Championship opening round.

The FIM World Supercross Championship’s first tentative steps into racing will be with a “pilot” season in 2022, before running a full 12-round series in 2023—starting after the AMA Supercross series ends, but during both the AMA Nationals and FIM MXGP World Motocros Championships. Since most Grand Prix stars have very little Supercross experience (aoart from the French riders), the fledgling Supercross series isn’t expect to impact the MXGP series, but the AMA outdoor Nationals could lose AMA Supercross riders—especially if the FIM World Supercross series opens up its entry list to a great number of riders.

• COOPER WEBB RE-SIGNS WITH RED BULL KTM FOR THE 2023

Cooper will race the Paris Supercross, along with Eli Tomac and the Lawrence brothers, to launch their 2023 AMA Supercross efforts. The Paris Supercross will be held on November 12-13.

Two-time 450 Supercross Champion Cooper Webb, who is not racing the 450 Nationals, has put pen to paper, inking a deal with the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team that extends through the 2023 race season. But between the lines it is obvious that it is a Supercross-Only contract. Webb’s extended contract also includes the option to head outdoors for the AMA Pro Motocross Championship. Entering his fifth season with the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team in 2023, the North Carolina native has achieved great success aboard the KTM 450SXF and the team looks forward to building on that success in future seasons. Cooper Webb said, “I am excited to continue my relationship with the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team and I’m really looking forward to going after a third AMA 450 Supercross Championship together next season!”

Fire Power Honda signed Max Anstie to a deal where is only guaranteed three races (Red Bud, Southwick and Millville). Max does hope to race the 2022 Motocross des Nations for Team Great Britain (if chosen) on September 25 at Red Bud. However, at the first of Max’s three races (Red Bud) his Honda CRF450 hadserious issues. • PHOTO OF THE WEEK: UNGUIDED MISSILE

According to eyewitness reports, Jake Morris (921) got crossed up over the tabletop before Glen Helen’s finish line jump and ghost rode his KTM off the track and into the wooden support of the flagman’s stand.

Jake’s bike broke a 2×4 in half and came to rest on top of tunnel. Jake walked away, but eventually he got into an ambulance. He ended up suffering a broken wrist, broken arm and several broken vertebrae. Photos: Will Harper

Oh, yeah, it was considered to be such an unfair advantage that the AMA banned titanium frames after Lars’ victory.
