AUSTRALIAN SUPERCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP CANCELED
The 2020 Australian Supercross Championship has been canceled and the promoters claim they will focus on a bigger and better 2021 series. The latest stage four restrictions in Victoria, along with the overall instability of each Australian state’s reaction to the future of the virus, resulted in an agreement that a series this year would be too unpredictable.
AUS SX Holdings Co-Founder Adam Bailey said, “It’s really disappointing for all of us involved with supercross in Australia to have to cancel this year’s series/ We wanted to hold out for as long as we could, to try and get some semblance of Supercross competition up and running for this year and things were looking great for a fantastic 2020 series only a few weeks ago. With the ever-changing situation we’re up against with Covid-19 however evolving so rapidly recently, we have no choice but to cancel this year’s series. Supercross has been on a massive upward trend and we’re working tirelessly to ensure that this growth pattern continues.”
The 2019 Australian Supercross season was the most successful to date, with over 75,000 fans in attendance across the five-round series, along with live broadcasts available for both the Auckland and Melbourne rounds. For the first time ever, 35,000 race fans packed into Marvel Stadium for the season finale in the heart of downtown Melbourne, and witnessed Penrite Honda’s Chris Blose (SX2) and Justin Brayton (SX1) wrap up their respective championships in empathic fashion over a nail biting triple-header format.
DEAN WILSON GET A ONE-YEAR EXTENSION OF HIS HUSQVARNA CONTRACT FOR 2021 SEASON
Dean Wilson has signed another one-year contract extension with the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing Team. Wilson is set to compete in the 2021 AMA Supercross Championship and AMA National Motocross Championships aboard the FC450 Rockstar Edition. Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Stephen Westfall said, “Dean has been a part of our program since 2017 and we’re excited to keep him on board for another year. He is a great guy with an even better personality and we look forward to seeing him excel in 2021.”
TWO-DAY COMPETITION TO DETERMINE AMA SUPERMOTO NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP NO. 1 PLATES
You gotta a give the SuperMoto promoters a Gold Star for trying to get the long defunct AMA Supermoto series off the ground. They vowed to try again—only this time without an actual series. Just one weekend in Tucson.
The 2020 AMA Supermoto National Championship has been reduced to two days of competition on November 7-8 in Tucson, Ariz., to determine who receives the coveted AMA National No. 1 plate. Originally scheduled as a six-event series, but the six scheduled events were canceled due to restrictions put in place by government officials during the coronavirus pandemic.
That said, the 2020 Supermoto Championship, sanctioned by the American Motorcyclist Association, will consist of four points-earning races over two days. The format includes two races per day Nov. 7th and Nov. 8th. Each race offers points toward the overall championship. Classes include Open, Lites, National Amateur, Sportsman MX and Kids. Supermoto is a mix of street-style racing and motocross as the racers compete on a track that combines dirt and pavement and includes jumps and flat track-style turns. (1) The wheelbase of the Trail 125 has been lengthened 0.5 inches to 49.4, the front-suspension stroke increased to 0.4 inches to 4.3, ground clearance upped 1.1 inches to 6.5, and the seat height raised 0.8 inches to 31.5.
(2) The head pipe is reinforced and the triple clamp redesigned to ensure a balance between frame rigidity and flex.
(3) The Trail 125 has dual-sport-style knobby tires mounted on 17-inch rims with stainless-steel spokes
(4) The reshaped seat is narrowed at the front to facilitate foot reach to the ground.
(5) The Trail 125 has a longer intake and tuned exhaust for enhanced low- and midrange power, as well as a three-tooth larger rear sprocket (39 teeth) for lower gearing
(6) The Trail 125 is scheduled for release in November and will be available in Glowing Red. The MSRP is $3899.

JEFFREY HERLINGS PROVES THAT YOU CAN’T AFFORD TO GET HURT WHEN MXGP IS RACING ON SUNDAY, WEDNESDAY & SUNDAY
Jeffrey Herlings’ crash at Faenza on Wednesday couldn’t have come at worse time for the 450 points leader. First, he couldn’t race Wednesday’s Faenza race and had his 60-point lead whittled down to 22-points. KTM has already announced that he won’t be racing the third Faenza GP this Sunday and will not be released to race until after the Mantova triple-header on September 27, 30 & October 4.
The official KTM press release: Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings will sit out the Grands Prix of Lombardia, Citta di Mantova and Europe from September 27-October 4 to undergo another MRI scan in the wake of his crash during Free Practice for the Grand Prix of Citta di Faenza last Wednesday.
The current MXGP FIM World Championship leader and winner of four rounds out seven so far in 2020 fell and suffered a large impact to his neck and shoulders at the Monte Coralli circuit on Wednesday morning. The soon-to-be 26-year old was taken to a hospital in Bologna and then to Herentals in Belgium where he was examined by renowned and trusted surgeon Dr Claes.
WHAT IT MEANS TO JEFFREY TITLE HOPES
With so many GPs crammed on top of each other, a rider who gets injured stands to miss more races than he would on the old MXGP race schedule. Case in point: If Jeffrey is not be back for the Mantova triple-header, which starts on Sunday, September 27, he stands to miss as many as 5 GPs—and lose as many as 150 points (of what is his 22-point lead now). In fact, after this Sunday’s third Faenza GP, Herlings will no longer have the 450 GP points lead.
MXGP’s rushed Sunday/Wednesday/Sunday schedules have come about because of the five months that MXGP missed during the worst part of the Covid-19 virus, They have to cram in as many races as possible to two reasons:
(1) They want to get as many races done in the shortest possible time before winter sets in…and they already have a third Italian triple header scheduled for Trentino, Italy, on November 1, 4 & 8. They know that they can get a surprise snow storm, like the one that hit Colorado last weekend.
(2) Covid-19 is not done wreaking havoc on the world. An outbreak in the MXGP paddock, or inside a team transporter or to a region where they are scheduled to race, would mean that the season would have to be cut short. Thus, they want to get as far into the season as possible, so that if they have to call it off, they will have done enough races to call it a legitimate Championship series.
Jeffrey Herlings has shown in the past that he is willing to race injured, and able to make up a tremendous number of points in short order, will only have 7 GPS left to race if he doesn’t come back until after the Mantova triple header. There is a chance that the MXGP schedule will be extended by one round—if Argentina every gets a firm date, but, as for now, it is not officially on the 2020 MXGP calendar.

MIKE ALESSI WINS THE “PASHA 125 OPEN:” THE WORLD TWO-STROKE CHAMPIONSHIP IS IN 22 DAYS
Mike Alessi brought two Yamaha YZ125s (well, one was actually a YZ135) to the Pasha 125 Open Two-Stroke race. Mike won the 125 Pro class on the YZ125 and Vet Pro class on the YZ125. Hollywood actor Pasha Afshar decided that he wanted to help the 125 Pro class at the 2020 World Two-Stroke Championship grow, so he organized the “Pasha 125 Open” and paid the purse money out of his own pocket. He didn’t take a dime from the race entries. He is dedicated to increasing the profile of 125 two-strokes.

The only bikes eligible in the “Pasha 125 Open” were 125cc and 150cc two-strokes. Which are the legal sizes at the World Two-Stroke Championship. There were 250cc and 500cc four-stroke at the “Pasha 125 Open,” but they were not eligible for the purse money racesand were encouraged to sign-up in the regular classes (which included different skill levels, age groups and four-strokes).

The strangest twist of the Pasha 125 Open is that it consists of only three classes, with no skill divisions. The purse money was paid to the 125 Pros, Vet Pros (30 to 49 years old) and the Over-50 Pros. The purse money was divided equally between three classes. The biggest class of the day was the Over-50 125cc Pro race. It was made up of many of the riders who contest the World Vet Championship every year—including World Vet Champions Kurt Nicoll and Pete Murray—plus a significant group of Over-60 racers who love to race against those youngsters in the Over-50 class. Yes, a 50-year-old did win the Over-50 125cc pro race, but he was followed home by 61-year-old Pete Murray.

WORKS CONNECTION KTM/HUSKY ELITE AXLE BLOCK KIT
KTM’s right-side axle block is threaded onto the rear axle. Japanese-built bikes have a flange on one end of the axle and a threaded nut face on the other end. The KTM system makes the threaded-on axle block serve as both an axle block and an axle nut. This may have seemed like a good idea at the factory, but it has some limitations. The KTM factory team did not think it was a good idea to bond the axle block to the rear axle. The solidly linked axle/axle block combo didn’t allow the axle to move freely under a load, and it locked the axle and swingarm together into an overly rigid single unit. Thus, the KTM factory bikes use a Japanese-style rear axle and specially machined aluminum axle block. Glen Helen’s 3Bros-sponsored 24-Hour off-road endurance race is scheduled for November 21-22.The 24-Hour of Glen Helen will begin on November 21 at 10:00 a.m. and end on Sunday, November 22 at 10:00 a.m. The amateur teams can have 6 riders and two bikes, but the Pro teams can only have 4 riders and must finish the 24 hours on the one bike.
