• TRAVIS PASTRANA SET TO RACE AFT FLAT TRACK ON MAY 1
Travis Pastrana will attempt to add a Progressive American Flat Track victory to his slam-dunk Hall of Fame resume. Pastrana won the 2000 AMA 125 National Championship, the National Rally America Championship and 11 X Games gold medals. Travis is set to race the Atlanta Super TT in AFT Singles competition aboard the #199 Red Bull KTM Factory Racing 450SXF on Saturday, May 1, at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Super TT takes the basic formula of a traditional dirt track TT, which generally includes one right-hand turn and a jump, to the next level. The Atlanta Super TT will feature the inclusion of an extended pavement section that will allow racers to do battle on the famed quad-oval’s start/finish straight.
TTs are known as the great equalizer of the flat track circuit – requiring a true command of the motorcycle, beyond the traditional dirt oval. This challenge has been accepted by many well-known guest riders from other disciplines, including Pastrana’s buddy and two-time Buffalo Chip TT winner Ryan Sipes. “I haven’t been able to beat Ryan Sipes at anything on two wheels in a very long time,” said Pastrana. “It probably won’t happen at the Atlanta Super TT either, but I bet him $1 that it would. Either way, it’s going to be a lot of fun trying!”
• ODD PHOTOS WITH EXPLANATIONS BY DEBBI TAMIETTI
Dave Eropkin (811) looks like he is setting a fashion trend by having his name and number printed on the front of his jersey at last week’s REM race at Glen Helen. The Explanation: He was late to get to the starting line for his second moto and grabbed his jersey, pulled it over his head and rushed to the line. He didn’t realize it was on backwards until the moto was over.
Pat Veritch (7) looks like he is a Marionette and someone else is pulling the strings in this photo. The Explanation: REM extended a downhill out into the Bud’s Creek section of the Glen Helen facility. The turn at the end of the downhill just happened to line up with the power lines running down the main track. Veritch’s body is blocking the power pole, but you can see it under Robbie Mueller’s (3) left handlebar.
• WAIT UNTIL THE NATIONALS?
Eli Tomac is 40 points behind points leader Cooper Webb and 24 points behind second place Ken Roczen. Eli is not out of contention yet, but with only 52 points left in the Supercross season, he is a long shot. But, he’s not a long shot for the AMA 450 Nationals.
Let’s face it, except to for a small handful of riders in the 450 Supercross, 250 East Supercross and 250 West Supercross series, this season is over for the vast majority of AMA Pro riders. There is only 50 points left to be earned in the 250 East and 450 class, and if you aren’t inside that bubble you are racing for third or worse. In the 450 class the list of riders just marking time in hopes of getting into the top five, top ten or top 20 includes Aaron Plessinger, Malcolm Stewart, Jason Anderson, Dylan Ferrandis and Marvin Musquin. Their best hope is to go out in the AMA 250/450 Nationals and set the world on fire—if they can. For those who choose to sit the Summer out, you’re banking a lot on your Supercross results.

It was sad that Hunter Lawrence claimed that Cameron McAdoo cut him off last week in Atlanta 3, when Cameron was in front by a full bike length ahead and took the only line around the Tuff Block that was available. Hunter should have said, “I should have waited to pass him in the next corner instead of trying to rush the pass when I wasn’t close enough.”

• MXA AD OF THE WEEK: WHAT HAPPENS IN CZECHOSLOVAKIA ENDS IN INDIA
For all intents and purposes Jawa Motorcycles came to a screeching halt when the Berlin Wall came down, but a strange thing happened to the Czechoslovakian brand, they found a second life in India, where they are still produced and sold today. Jawa was founded in Prague in 1929 by Frantisek Janecek, who bought the motorcycle division of Wanderer. Jawa exported its 350 California models into over 120 countries. After 1990, a significant loss of production occurred in Czechoslovakia. Jawa had been licensed to be made in India in 1960, but that market also shrunk, but in 2018, Mahindra signed a new licensing deal to sell new Jawa street models in India. This is a 1962 Czech-made Jawa Type 353 two-stroke.
This is a brand-new Indian-made Jawa. It’s looks like a modern version of the 58-year-old Jawa Type 353.

• MXA TEAM TESTED: THOR MX PULSE AIR GEAR
The 2021 Thor MX Pulse Air gear is Thor’s flagship line of vented gear, and it is unlike many other vented options. The Pulse Air line isn’t breathable because its designers used ultra-thin (and therefore frail) material but because of the exceptionally porous polyester mesh fabric they used. Riders such as Cooper Webb, Marvin Musquin and Dylan Ferrandis can be seen wearing the Thor MX Pulse Air gear.
The Thor MX Pulse Air jersey is constructed from a polyester-mesh main fabric that allows maximum airflow throughout the entire jersey. The fabric is also moisture-wicking to help you stay dry. The jersey features a four-way-stretch collar and cuffs, and the sleeves are tailored to fit snugly around the arms without excess material.
The Thor MX Pulse Air pants are designed to offer mobility, durability and breathability. The main fabric is similar to that of the jersey with a knit polyester mesh. The pants are pre-curved to fit naturally, and in-motion flex sections are used around the main vented panels to keep the pants moving with ease. The pant has a dual-side cinching sans-a-belt system to customize the fit, and the front closure uses a zipper and button.
All gear companies talk about ventilation, but not all have a dedicated line for it. Thor MX Pulse Air gear is the breathable brother of the Thor MX Pulse line, and the difference between the two is significant. The non-vented Thor MX pulse gear is durable, but the pants are not as flexible. The vented Pulse Air gear’s chassis is made of polyester mesh that is woven in a wide spread pattern that produces visibly large pores throughout the jersey and pants. Plus, both colorways of the Pulse Air gear feature a significant amount of white material without large sections of the black. Believe it or not, white gear is much cooler than black gear on a hot summer day.
In the range from spandex riding pants to ultra-baggy gear, the Thor MX Pulse Air pants have a relaxed but tailored fit. The pants are not skintight like some “athletic fit” gear, but they aren’t flowing with excess material, either. They’re very comfortable around the legs. The sizing on the Pulse Air pants felt slightly larger than usual, but we didn’t mind. The dual-side cinch adjustment straps help offer a snug fit for guys who are on the bigger or smaller side of the chosen size. The Air jersey has a relaxed and comfortable fit, and it’s true to size. The jersey also has slightly shorter sleeves than normal, and we liked them.
The only areas on this gear that aren’t vented are the side panels on the pants, the leather knee panels and the nylon saddle. The polyester mesh material in the jersey held up well. The knee area of the pants always receives the most abuse, and the Pulse Air gear sacrificed durability for breathability in this region. Our knee braces tore holes in the back of the knees, and the material at the front of the knees was frayed from roost. On the plus side, the large vent holes and strong material resisted dirt stains easily, which was a pleasant surprise for white gear.
The Thor MX Pulse Air gear is available in two different colorways—white/red and white/navy. The jersey sizes range from small to triple-extra large, and the pant sizes range from 28- to 44-inch waists. What’s the squawk? We don’t like using a button to close up the waistband.
DIGITS? $39.95 (jersey), $119.95 (pants)— www.thormx.com or your local dealer.
MXA RATING: The Pulse Air gear isn’t trying to walk the line by appealing to cold-weather and warm-weather riders at the same time. The Pulse Air gear is an all-or-nothing vented line, and, in our book, it can compete with Moose Racing’s Sahara gear for the “Best in Ventilation” title.
• MXA MOTO CHALLENGE QUIZ: WE WERE ALL YOUNG ONCE
Can you name this man? He was an MXA test rider. He was a Factory Suzuki racer. He was the man that David Bailey said was the most stylish rider he had ever ever seen (and that’s saying something). Can you name him. Answer at the bottom of the page.
BEHIND THE SCENES WITH GREAT BRITAIN’S REVO KAWASAKI TEAM
Revo is one of the biggest car tuning businesses in the Great Britain and runs its Kawasaki motocross team for bit of fun with the owner’s son. They also have a big base in the USA. They do a lot of go-faster ignition and remaps for cars. Their No.1 rider is a New Zealander Dylan Walsh who did some MXGPs last year and led the Mantova GP for half the race, holding off Tim Gajser. So he’s an up-and-comer for sure. The video also shows inside the engines which is quite rare. Revo makes its own pistons and will soon have a connecting rod and more bits too. They are based in Britain’s “Formula One Belt” near Cosworth and tend to use a lot of F1 know-how and designers to build their engines.
