LAST YEAR’S MOTOCROSS DES NATION VIDEO

A BIKE YOU’VE NEVER SEEN BEFORE: BRITISH-MADE ARMSTRONG CMX450

Armstrong was a British motorcycle company  that was best known for attaching itself to other motorcycle brands—when those didn’t want to make bikes for themselves. Armstrong bought CCM in 1981 (although CCM would later buy itself back) and supplied bikes the same basic bikes to Can from 1983 to 1987. The CMX450 was a Rotax-powered, 410cc, two-stroke with Marzocchi forks and and Ohlins shock. Armstrong were never sold in American, just their Can-Am clone bikes—the best known of which was the Can-Am Sonic 500 four-stroke.

MXA AD OF THE WEEK: 2008 MONSTERS OF MOTOCROSS GALA

Monster of Motocross was an epic 2008 gala that filled the historic California Theatre in San Bernardino with virtually every motocross star from the 1970s and 1980s. Held on Halloween Eve, filmmaker Todd Huffman hosted the event for charity and it featured a Huffman produced Brad Lackey film, a Bob Hannah-made spoof of the movie “One Chance to Win” and Jody Weisel’s “Motocross Immortals” film. Best of all, the 800 people in attendance hung around before and after the show to talk about the good old days.
