According to Australia’s Courier Mail: The brother of motocross legend Andrew McFarlane?who was tragically killed in a crash this year?has appealed to the thieves that broke into his Capalaba shop yesterday morning and stole a bike belonging to the fallen champion.

The 2010 KTM 450SFX, which Cameron McFarlane estimates to be worth between $15,000 and $18,000, formed the centrepiece of an in-shop shrine dedicated to the former world No.2. Andrew McFarlane was killed in a practice lap crash in May while preparing for round three of the motocross national championships in Victoria. The 33-year-old’s death shocked the global motocross community.

Cameron McFarlane said the stolen bike had been proudly displayed as a tribute to his brother and was not for sale. ”It was Andrew’s Queensland racing bike,” he said. ”This one was a bike that we wanted to keep and unfortunately that’s not to be any more.”

Mr. McFarlane said thieves broke into the store around 1:44 a.m. by smashing windows and locks on the front door. He said it would have been obvious that the bike was not intended for sale and was displayed as part of a shrine. ”You’ve only got to look around down here and we’ve got all the jerseys, number plates, banners and stuff from his career.”

Mr. McFarlane appealed to the thieves to return the bike and said they could leave it out the front of the store with no questions asked. ”All we want is the bike back,” he said. ”Just bring the bike back and they can have everything else.”

A police spokeswoman said investigations are continuing.
