Ben Townley will not be making the trip to Neuquen, Argentina, for the fourth round of the 2016 450 World Championships with his Suzuki team. Townley, 31, is suffering from a virus that first hit him back in Valkenswaard. Townley will skip Argentina on Sunday and Mexico the following weekend. Townley is currently 12th in the 450 World Championship.

“Ben was sick before Valkenswaard and since then has still been very tired and is sleeping a lot,” said Suzuki team manager Stefan Everts. “We made some blood tests and checks and all seemed okay, but he is still so lethargic and very drained. We made a late decision that it is important for him to get healthy and fit, so he will sit out these two flyaways.”

Townley’s factory Suzuki RM-Z450 is already in South America, but the search for a substitute was not fruitful. Stefan said, “We had a look, but finally we will not run another rider at these two events.”

Kevin Strijbos will be the lone 450 factory Suzuki rider on the volcanic ash layout just outside of Neuquen, Argentina (although Jeremy Seewer will be there in the 250 class). Strijbos missed last year’s inaugural Argentinian GP last year due to injuries, so this is his first time at the highly rated track. Kevin Strijbos said, “I saw the GP in Argentina on the TV last year. The track looks good; almost sandy but without the big bumps and possibly quite hard ground underneath. I’m looking forward to trying it and to see what we can do.”
