PRE-ATLANTA ROUNDUP

The first race on the Eastern side and 8th round of the series will be kicking off in Atlanta, Georgia this Saturday. Riders in the Western 250 class will now have a three week break until Santa Clara to catch their breath and start preparing for outdoors. The points leader is still Ryan Dungey (by 23 points), but the performance of Ken Roczen in Arlington has proven that the season isn’t over. The wiener dogs won’t be the only act in the half time show in Atlanta as NASCAR stars Greg Biffle, Clint Bowyer, Ty Dillon and Ricky Stenhouse will be getting geared up for a race to the first corner on dirt bikes.

BASIC STATS

  1. At 47% the 2016 Supercross season is about half over.
  2. The city of Atlanta has been on the schedule longer than most, hosting it’s first Supercross in 1977.
  3. Motocross legend, Bob Hannah got his first Supercross win in Atlanta (also in 1977).
  4. The largest recorded Supercross attendance was in Atlanta in 2013, with over 71,000 fans.
  5. Currently there are three riders in the series from Georgia; A J Catanzaro in the 450 class, Anthony Rodriguez and Grant Ransdell in the 250 class.
  6. This year Atlanta only appears once on the schedule, whereas in 2015 the town did double duty.

 450 CLASS NOTES

  1. Ken Roczen is 23 points down from points leader Ryan Dungey.
  2. Davi Millsaps got his first career 450SX win in Atlanta during the 2008 season. Georgia is his homestate.
  3. Up until this point, Ryan Dungey has not missed a Supercross podium since Anaheim 1 of 2015. That is 23 straight podiums.
  4. Ricky Charmichael is the only rider to have multiple back to back winning streaks in Atlanta. He also has won Atlanta on three different manufactures (Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Honda).

  • Anaheim 1 – Tomac 1:01.954.
  • San Diego 1 – Dungey 48.794.
  • Anaheim 2 – Tomac 57.202.
  • Oakland – Dungey 53.229.
  • Phoenix -Tomac 1:02.602.
  • San Diego 2 – Dungey 57.995.
  • Arlington – Dungey 50.754.

250 CLASS NOTES

  1. Ricky Carmichael got his first Supercross career win in the SX lites class in Atlanta.
  2. Cooper Webb is once again the points leader, 11 points ahead of Joey Savatgy going into the break.
  3. The first 250 class win for Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM was in Atlanta. Marvin Musquin put it on the podium at Atlanta 1, but was able to get the win  at Atlanta 2.
  4. Two of the three 250SX riders that made the podium in Atlanta in the 2015 season are racing the 450 class this year–Justin Bogle and Marvin Musquin. Jeremy Martin is in the 250SX east lineup.

  • San Diego 1 – Webb 49.360.
  • Anaheim 2 – Webb 57.597.
  • Oakland – Alldredge 45.003.
  • Phoenix – Webb 1:03.650.
  • San Diego 2 – Savatgy 59.234.
  • Arlington – Craig 51.705.

450 Class

Justin Barcia – The pins are out of his thumb, but he has yet to start riding.
Blake Baggett – Hurt shoulder is keeping him out.
Broc Tickle – Recovering from a broken wrist.
Ronnie Stewart – Also recovering from a broken wrist.
Kyle Chisholm – Recovering from a broken humerus, dislocated shoulder and concussion.
Dusty Pipes – Like Chisholm, he is recovering from both a broken humerus and dislocated shoulder.
Tyler Enticknap – Broke his thumb at the first San Diego round.
Dean Wilson – Out for the 2016 season with a torn ACL and meniscus.
Adam Enticknap – Out for the season due to a broken femur.
Coming off the couch –  James Stewart and Vann Martin.

250 Class

Considering this is the first round of the eastern lineup, there aren’t any season injuries to report on. However, some preseason injuries and updates are below.

Shane McElrath – Racing Atlanta.
Matt Bisceglia – Also racing Atlanta.
Nick Gaines – Out of the 2016 Supercross season with a broken femur.
Adam Cianciarulo – Still recovering from a broken wrist.
Jordan Smith –  Injured shoulder.
Zach BellHealing from a broken collarbone and planning to finish the Western SX.
Jessy Nelson – Out of Supercross with a shoulder/back injury and concussion.
Luke Clout – Out of with a broken femur
Mark Worth – He dislocated a hip and broke his elbow on the first lap of practice at Anaheim 1.
Daniel Baker – Done for the 2016 Supercross season after tearing his ankle.
Josh Osby – Broke some ribs and punctured a lung.
