THIS WEEK IN MXA: AUSTIN FORKNER & ROGER DECOSTER INTERVIEWS, PLUS 1991 KAWASAKI KX500 TWO-STROKE TESTING

Episode 16 of our ‘This Week in MXA‘ video series is presented by O’Neal Racing and in this video, we talk to Austin Forkner and Roger Decoster, we ride Josh Grant’s Twisted Development Yamaha YZ300 two-stroke alongside a project build 1991 Kawasaki KX500, and we show some clips of Jett Lawrence and Trey Canard doing some Outdoor testing on the HRC Honda CRF250s. The big topic we had to touch on when speaking with Austin Forkner is the timeline for him moving up to the 450 class. With the AMA’s 250 Supercross point-out rule, if a rider exceeds over 135-points in four seasons, then they point out of the class and are bumped up to the 450 ranks. (Note: This only applies to Supercross. A rider can compete in 250 Outdoors for as long as they want). Austin was on track to exceed the limit in 2021 and be forced to the 450 class for the 2022 season, but his broken collarbone at Houston #3 kept him off the bike for the next four 250 East races. Now, Austin is back riding and plans to race the final two 250 East Coast races of the season at Salt Lake City, but he doesn’t have to worry about exceeding the point threshold with only two races left.
